ATTLEBORO - City detectives on Saturday interviewed one of the two men suspected in last week's armed robbery of a local gas station, according to police.
Anthony Bates, 22, of 1085 Central St., Pawtucket, was arrested Friday night while working at a mobile phone kiosk in the Emerald Square mall.
Police said Bates assaulted an officer before he was arrested by North Attleboro Detective Daniel Arrighi. Detectives in Attleboro obtained an arrest warrant for Bates and then contacted North Attleboro Police when they determined he was working at the Route 1 mall.
Police say Bates is one of two armed men who roughed up and then robbed an employee at Pedro's Citgo Station, 21 South Ave., in Attleboro on Jan 5.
The two men then fled behind the store with an unknown amount of money.
One of the two thieves was carrying a knife with a blade measuring at least 7 inches in length, while the other robber was carrying a black handgun, according to police, The clerk was not harmed in the altercation, but he was visibly shaken by the incident.
North Attleboro Police charged Bates with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, disturbance of the peace, and for uttering threats to commit a crime. After police booked him on the North Attleboro charges, he was transferred to Attleboro Police, where he was charged with one count of armed robbery.
Bates is set to be arraigned in Attleboro District Court on Monday.
