NATICK - A Mattapan woman, in custody on accusations that she stole a TV meteorologist's credit card in November and bought thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, will face more charges, police said.
Nicola J. Clark, 40, will be charged with stealing a Worcester woman's credit card from a Framingham restaurant prior to her November arrest. According to police spokesman Lt. Brian Grassey, she used that card to buy gift cards, a refrigerator, a microwave and a $900 vest.
Clark has been held at MCI-Framingham on $250 bail since her November arrest. She was accused of stealing WBZ-TV meteorologist Mish Michaels' credit card at a Boston restaurant and then using it at Natick Collection.
"After the media display of what happened in the Mish Michaels' event, a previous victim that had reported a credit card theft noticed some similarities in her case to that case," Grassey said.
The woman, whom Grassey did not name, was eating at a restaurant in Framingham when her purse was stolen. The date was unavailable, but the incident occurred prior to the Michaels' theft.
The card had been used at several stores at Natick Collection, including Sears, the lieutenant said.
Detectives, along with Sears security, looked at video of the person who used the stolen card, and she looked familiar.
"The loss prevention officer from Sears was able to identify this person as the same person involved in the Mish Michaels' incident," Grassey said.
Clark purchased several gift cards at the Natick Sears, and then used the cards at Sears in Braintree and Dedham, he said.
She also used the credit card to purchase a $900 vest from Burberry and several other items.
Detectives then tracked the gift card use and found that Clark purchased a 25-cubic-foot refrigerator and a microwave with them. She had them delivered to her apartment at 127 Hazelton St., Mattapan.
Clark ran up $3,700 in charges on the stolen credit card, Grassey said.
"Armed with that information, and coupled with the activity she was already involved in, we were able to get a search warrant for her apartment," he said.
Inside, police found all of the items they say Clark purchase.
In the theft of Michaels' credit card, Clark is being held on four counts of inappropriate use of a credit card for more than $250, four counts of uttering, four counts of forgery, one count of receiving stolen goods worth more than $250, one count of receiving a stolen credit card and one count of conspiracy.
She will likely face similar charges in the latest incident, Grassey said.
