Two men walking on Dorchester Avenue toward Ronan Park were ambushed from behind by at least one gunman who opened fire and left a 20-year-old man clinging to life last night, witnesses and police said.
The victim was hit three times in the stomach and fell to the sidewalk just as a police officer on a walking beat rounded the corner, said Deputy Superintendent Rafael Ruiz.
The man walking beside the victim when the gunman attacked sat in the back of a police crusier last night while police questioned him. Ruiz said he did not know if the witness was cooperating. Boston Police Department spokesman officer James Kenneally said the victim was in life-threatening condition.
He said there have been no arrests and there is no motive for the shooting at this time. Police urge anyone with information to call (800) 949-TIPS.
