Prosecutor: Man unhappy with cocaine demands refund
By Julie Manganis

SALEM - A Peabody man who was apparently unhappy with the quality of the cocaine he'd purchased is now facing attempted armed robbery charges.
Carlos Viera, 29, was one of three men who were allegedly using cocaine in a Salem apartment last month after the
resident of the apartment apparently arranged to have a dealer show up and sell them drugs.
Viera, prosecutor Lisa Core said, was dissatisfied with the cocaine and asked the resident to call the dealer so he could return the unused portion for a refund.
At some point, Viera allegedly pulled a gun on the resident - who dared Viera to pull the trigger. Viera didn't.
He is, however, facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and attempting to commit a crime, armed robbery.
Prosecutors asked for $25,000 cash bail, which was granted by Salem District Court Judge Joseph Jennings,
who also ordered Viera held without bail pending a hearing into whether Viera has also violated his probation. The hearing was scheduled for Feb. 11.
