HINGHAM - Two criminal charges against a Hingham mother who police say gave alcohol to Hingham High School students at her daughter’s birthday party were dismissed and a third was continued without a finding in Hingham District Court this week.
Charges of giving alcohol to minors and contributing to the delinquency of a child against Elizabeth J. Smith, 46, of 21 Martins Cove Road, were dismissed at the request of the state.
On a charge of keeping a noisy and disorderly house, sufficient facts for a guilty finding were found, but Judge Ronald Moynahan continued the charge without a finding until April 8. If Smith stays out of trouble for four months, the charge may be dismissed.
The charges stemmed from a party held at Smith’s home last March. Police went to the home after receiving several complaints from neighbors about a party involving underage drinking.
Officers reported seeing young people drinking in the house then covering the windows with what appeared to be trash bags. Police said Smith answered the door, told police there was no problem and no alcohol, then closed the door.
Police said all of the teenagers who drove to the party were picked up and taken home by their parents.
The incident happened less than six months after police broke up another party where they say an underage teenager’s mother with giving alcohol to minors. That case is pending.
