Plymouth booster club treasurer accused of stealing: Denies admitting to police she took $19K

By ROBERT SEARS
The Patriot Ledger

PLYMOUTH - The treasurer of the Plymouth North High School boosters club has been charged with stealing money from the group.

A complaint charging Patricia Proctor, 49, of 3 Cracstone Road with larceny of more than $250 was issued in Plymouth District Court. A date for her arraignment has not been set.

Police said Proctor, who became the club’s treasurer in 2005, admitted to club president Michael Cuomo that she stole $19,000.

Proctor said the police report is inaccurate.

‘‘I never admitted to stealing that dollar amount,’’ she said in a telephone interview. ‘‘I didn’t admit to stealing anything.... The dollar amount is not that dollar amount; it’s much, much less.’’

The police report says she made the admission after club officials noticed that a $3,222 deposit listed in the books kept by Proctor was not on the bank statement.

Cuomo could not be reached Thursday. ...

According to the police report, Cuomo told Proctor in September and twice in October that he wanted to see the account books. Proctor didn’t produce them until the November meeting, police said.

She told police that she began taking money in June because of financial difficulties: rental property in Texas had been trashed by tenants, and the needed repairs would cost $10,000, according to the report.

When police interviewed her, she told them that she was unemployed, having trouble paying bills and that she could not get a home equity loan, the report says.

It says she told police she repaid $4,000 in October, and that she took $1,000 in May 2006 but later paid it back with a bonus check from work.

The report also says Cuomo was hiring an accounting firm to determine just how much money was missing.
