Reggae-enraged chef bites off builder's ear

An award-winning north-west London chef chewed off part of a builder's ear after a row about reggae, a court has heard.
Michael Jenkins, whose venison roulade won him dinner for two at one of Gordon Ramsey's restaurants, ran into trouble after temporarily swapping the 'high-pressured' kitchen environment for a career break on a building site.
But while working on some scaffolding he got into an argument with 'mate' Levi Edwards about reggae.
London's Southwark Crown Court heard their musical difference of opinion ended with them inviting each other to ground level for a fight.
Although they managed to temporarily settle their differences without coming to blows, tempers flared again the following day over breakfast.
Iestyn Morga, prosecuting, said after an exchange of punches and being clouted over the head with a spanner, pastry chef Jenkins sank his teeth into the other man's ear. When Mr Edwards tried to pull him off, his lobe came too.
The apologetic defendant later handed it back to its owner suggesting he went to hospital 'to get it sewed back on' but that proved to be impossible.
Jenkins, 25, of Neasden Lane, Wembley, who has been in custody since shortly after the attack last September, could not hide his relief after Recorder George Leggatt, QC, said he would not have to return to prison for the single count of wounding he had admitted.
Although he had left his victim 'permanently disfigured', he had decided the fact he was hit with a spanner first, together with his guilty plea and remorse, meant a 12-month prison sentence he was imposing could be suspended for two years.
However, he will also have to complete 300 hours unpaid community work, pay Mr Edwards £300 compensation and attend anti-aggression training.
It is not entirely clear at the time of writing what the details of their argument about reggae were.
