DETROIT -- A Detroit man was arraigned Sunday on child abuse charges in the beating of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son that was captured on a convenience store surveillance tape.
Joseph Gray, 27, was arrested Friday night after viewers saw his photo on televised news reports that also broadcast portions of the tape. Detroit police had released the tape that day to help capture him
The video from Dec. 21 shows a man hitting, kicking and stepping on a child over a four-minute span.
Police said investigators were assured by the boy's relatives that the child was OK.
Gray was arraigned by video in 36th District Court on charges of second- and third-degree child abuse.
