The Wellfleet Police Department is currently accepting applications for Summer Special Officers for 2008. Special Officers are sworn police officers who will typically work 40 hours a week from May to September. A great way to gain experience in law enforcement. More info is available at Wellfleet PD's web site.

Rosenthal still the chief?

Read the book "Midnights" by Alec Wilkinson. Terrific book, now available in paperback. No matter where you might have or do work (maybe not in a big city) you will appreciate this book....

...which is a true story that takes place with the Wellfleet PD in the 70s.

Rosenthal is still the Police Chief. Midnights is a fun read, especially if you know the officers mentioned within the book.

Wellfleet is an great town!! I have spent more than half my childhood summers in the next town over, Eastham. Know, I bring my children down to my parents summer house in Eastham.

When I first started at Har...my place of employment, my partner were approached by a guy who pointed out a car containing pot smokers. He identified himself as a Police Officer and when asked where, he replied, "Wellfleet."

A few days later, I put two and two together and figured he HAD to be Sherman A. Merrill, Jr. I wish I had figured it out at the time and confirmed it, but that's life, ain't it?

I read this book many years ago when I first got on the job (in a big city) and found it quite interesting. I would recommend it also. In fact, if I could find it I would read it again.

any questions, feel free to ask or pm me. Great opportunity and great guys. You will definitely get some experience and have a great time doing it.

does Wellfleet use "weekend" help ?

called down there today and was told they want 40 hours a week. have the intermittent academy , but working full time for the state.

Posted by: BPD142

We already have one guy that only works fri and sat nites for the summer so Im not sure if we would be able to utilize another like that. All I can say is, just apply and see what happens in the interview.

If I remember correctly, it was bi-weekly pay with about $525 a week. They don't have housing, you gotta find your own. It was a blast. And don't listen to BPD142... He's crazy

Posted by: BPD142

I definitely am, and when you getting your crazy ass back down here stranger? I can check the pay, just in case the rates have gone up, and as for housing goes, there are plenty of people that have some connections for housing if you get hired.

What's it like for folks that already have quite a bit of experience but just looking for a seasonal change??

Posted by: BPD142

what type and how much experience are we talking about? Cant really answer your question until you tell me that. Pm me if you dont want it on the forum. I will say that if its just a change of scenery you are looking for, its probably not for you, quite expensive to live on our salaries, nevermind on what summer guys make.

For LA Copper and anyone else interested, I just got a paperback copy of this (with a bit of an update not on the department, but on the author) as a gift for Christmas. I think you can find it on eBay.

Sure this is off topic, but wth?
