A Chippewa County deputy was injured while responding to a semitrailer fire on Highway 53, just south of Bloomer.
A sheriff's department spokesman said the deputy responded to the call at about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Jason Zunker, 31, was hit while directing traffic at the scene of a semitrailer fire in western Wisconsin Friday night.
Zunker was taken to an Eau Claire hospital, where he died Saturday.
Zunker started as a reserve officer in July 2003 and became a deputy sheriff in March 2004.
He lived in rural Augusta.
The state patrol said a woman from Chippewa Falls was driving the car that hit Zunker.
Police did not say if she will face charges.
