It's amazing how life goes in full circle. This weekend I find myself returning to the DoD Police. This time at Ft. Devens. I'm actually excited about it. I seem to be drawn to that environment. I want to thank all my brothers at the VA Police in Bedford Mass. It was a unique journey. I enjoyed working there and with all of you. This will be it for the "old guy." I will remain at Devens until I retire from Federal service in 7 or 8 years.

Oh Jeez!!!!

WTF happened dude!

Sarge,
Good luck in your new job, and please, stay in touch buddy.

Hey George, how ya been.

Posted by: DoD102

Been good thanks.

Nothing happened at the VA. It was a homerun pay, schedule, and commute times wise to go to Devens. Plus it's just where I'm more comfortable. I jumped the gun when our jobs at Westover were going away. Not too often we get a chance in life to correct a mistake, so I took the opportunity.

Thats whats cool about the Federal Retirement system. The portability.

Posted by: DoD102

Yes sir. When I get close to retirement if we want to move south we have that flexibility. Very cool. Wish I had done this when I was younger and not spent so much time in rural western Mass. Kind of wasted the best years of my career. Oh well.

George!
You really should have gone GS-025 Park Ranger for a new twist!

Kinda like cry-baby MPD61 wasting those years at Massasoit. You homo's can retire to Key West together!

DoD, congratulations on your new assignment. How does the Department of Defense Police man it's force ? Are you currently enlisted in the armed services, or are officers selected from an open competitive exam like civil service, which is open to the public.. Do people already employed by the Fed Gov bid on those jobs ? What kind of academy do you go to ? just wondering

If you look under New England Employment Listings they're looking for 2 more officers. There's a link on how to apply, no academy specifics.

Thanks, I'm all set where I am though. I'm just curious if they are active military or civilians on the DoD force

Hey mpd61...I thought about it but at the time there was nothing local. It seems like a pretty good gig.
Inspector71..I love the Keys. You can go and hold my towel!!

Loyal..Let's see. Thanks for the congrats, DoD manning depends on the size and branch of the installation you are assigned to. We have fewere as we are smaller. Yes it is just like civil service. It is a federal civil service open competitive exam and yes if you are already a federal employee you can apply as an internal employee. Most of the time it's actually easier to be external. ?? It's the federal system, don't even try to figure it out! LOL. If you get hired by an Air Force installation they send you to the VA Police academy in North Little Rock Arkansas. The Army uses a 9 week academy at Ft Leonard Wood I believe. The VA academy is six weeks. Hope this helps.

Oh, Loyal...sorry, we are civilians.

And yes we have openings. The Sgt's position closed on the 22nd but we have two patrol slots open. Not sure of the closing date. There will be more I believe. Just keep an eye on USAJOBS if interested, or if you have friends interested.
