Yes there are! I'm even hearing them over here, LOL!

Any new info coming out yet about an 80th or new test?

Yes.

Posted by: mtc

I figure my 16yr old daughter will be old enough to take the next test, by the time they give one......

But I'm cynical like that.

Posted by: 1234hey

Q5? Have you heard anything reliable????

Posted by: MDSP2597

1234hey, you just got to play the waiting game bud! The best thing for you to do is stay fit and stay out of trouble. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket. Look around to other departments and states. The only reliable information is, time will tell!

Posted by: SinePari

Admin is pushing for a maintenance class (about 100) from the last test. Whether they get the money for it, we'll see. Check the budget website.

Sorry...couldn't resist putting that out there

Posted by: misconceived

Despite the possbile sarcasm, I heard the same.... Coupe DeVal's budget is out today.

Posted by: 1234hey

I just checked the proposed 09' budget and there are no line items for another academy or an exam, unless there are hidden budgetary appropriations elsewhere. The waiting game continues.

Posted by: tin63

I have heard the same. However, non military people with 95's need to realize that it has been a long time since the test and therefore all of the applicants who had 94's and 95's prior to going over-seas are now back with VET points and are on the list with 96's and 97's now. Just something to keep in mind.

I just read in the paper that he plans on allocating funds to add 100 new officers to the streets this year....

Thats a far cry from 1,000 that he originally promised, and used as one of his campaign gimics....

What a douche bag....

Posted by: misconceived

The entire budget is online & quite comical.

Easy tiger. The 1000 promised was over the course of his administration, not in one year. But yes, 100 is a long way off from that lofty promise. In this instance, seeing is believing.

Posted by: 1234hey

There's a makeup exam this Saturday for all of those who didn't take it in 2002. It's a first come first serve testing format with only 100 test sheets being distributed. I suggest plan ahead and arrive early to secure your spot.

Please note: there will be a swear jar located toward the back of the testing room. All proceeds will help fund the upcoming academy.

Posted by: WaterPistola

hey 1234hey, thanks for the PM with the directions to the MAKE UP EXAM!

Posted by: SinePari

Whether you like Romney or not, he put about 450 more of us jack-booted thugs out there because admin asked for it. It's such a cheesy plug to say "more police officers" during a campaign.

Posted by: MDSP2597

Tell you what you want to hear then say, "I'm sorry, we just financial can't do it right now. I want to, but the budget is tight right now." Sounds like a broken record over the years.

Posted by: Massguy

If you were one of the 95's who thought they were giong to that feb. 6th class and ended up not going..especially if you were a back fill like myself I would start running....and no this isn't to mess with anyone...

Think they'll reach the 94s ?????????

as a involuntary deferred 95 myself, I really would like to know what information you have to back this statment up.

It's way too late in the game for an 80th.

The next scheduled one is the 81st.

According to the last Station Cmdr's mtg, there is a push for a class of 100 off the current list. It's up to the House and Senate. Deval is not going to give us anything. The Colonel has been pushing for a maintenence class for over a year now. We have had 92 retire last year and we are looking at 150 this year.

Posted by: tommym27

Now how would they go about running an MPTC class starting either the end of April or beginning of May...and then start a RTT class in the middle of it?? seems like kind of a cluster F, no?

Very easily Tommy, they've had SSPO, student troopers and RTTs going on at the same time. All without being a cluster

They are pretty good at multi-tasking out there at the SPA. Usually, there is plenty of suck to go around for everyone to partake in!

Posted by: MDSP2597

It's called being SQUARED AWAY tommy. Mass SP has been training recruits for a very long time and they know what needs to get the job done. Here is the end of the lesson.

Posted by: Vader

Anyone have any idea what cities / towns will be sending recruits to this "supposed" MPTC class @ the SPA???

Posted by: CHICwithBADGE

I went to an SSPO class. Lot's of running. Day 1 was tough. Other than that, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I heard it's a sample of the Recruit Training Troops. The municipal academy at the SPA will probably be the same.

Posted by: 94c

I heard the academies are now working "next on the list".

Which means the next one I believe will be in Randolph and once that is filled then the next will be in the SPA.

Whoever is hiring has to pick the next available until it is filled. Then the next one becomes available.

At least that's the way it's being explained.

Yeah, it's a sample if you consider arriving by 7:00AM, going home by 4:00 PM, sleeping in your own bed, eating your own food, not being messed with at all hours of the night, not being woken up by a fire alarm, and not having everythin you do controlled FOR you....

yeah, I'd consider that a sample.

Yeah, definately an accurate cross sample of an RTT...Along with all the MINOR differneces pointed out by my classmate, you can throw in having the ability to go out for dinner after a 'tough' training day, perhaps have a beer, watch some Red Sox and take a shower longer than 22 seconds..

However, back on topic somewhat, no official word when the 80th will start; as others have said, no $ in this years budget, it would have to be a supplemental...The rumor is Oct-Nov '08

If you visit this site regulary you would know that there is already a thread on this subject, and there is no reason to start a new one.

your post is moving to that thread:

The next State Police exam and the 80th RRT threads are an addiction to us all, ha ha. I swear I get very excited whenever I see a new "next RTT" thread posted. Someone should create a support group and have us meet every other weekend, we can discuss possible test dates, budgetary what ifs, and maybe have a group run.

The last "unofficial" word I received from a local Trooper at District Court was the MSP intends to have a maintenance class of 100 sometime this fall. More likely than not this would be the last class off this exam (from 2002). I am keeping my ear to the grindstone for my son's sake. Stay tuned I suppose.

Scroll down to the 8100 block. If it ain't here, it ain't happening. The $$$ for an academy went to drapes, a Cadillac, and increasing the governor's staff and payroll by 300 percent. But I'm sure his book will be good.

If it happens, it would be funded by a supplemental. It sure isn't in the budget.

I heard from Trooper A, who heard from a Trooper B that his friend (Trooper Bs) received a letter for the 80th RTT, which includes a packing list

The State of Massachusetts is broke except for the state house.

The only monies coming in are from the Feds and Homeland Security.

The key buzzwords with these grants are "regionalization" and "cross-training". (Not to be confused with cross-dressing).

So yes the MSP/Civil Service will become a reality. This cross-training will fill voids in multiple agencies.

You could patrol the highways on one day and the next, be ticketing a barking dog. Your uniform will stay the same but you'll be operating the vehicle belonging to the agency that your filling in for at the time.

RTT's will be a thing of the past.

But this thread will live in infamy...

So, before this thread is locked down look at what I found on the Mass State Police website application page:

Department of State Police
Instructions Sheet
80th R.T.T. Application for State Police Trooper
Note: This application should only be completed by candidates that have
received a notification letter for the 80
th RTT.

as of last week it stated it was for the 79th RTT. I am gathering that there will be a class in the summer/fall.

Posted by: SinePari

Admin has pushed for a supplemental budget request for this class. No money yet, but there is hope for this class in the next few months. Bring on another 300 posts!

Posted by: bosox04

So, has anyone actually received a letter about the 80th?

Posted by: CTrain

If this does happen, would that definitely push the next test back? I know there has been no set date, but the general "word" seems to be 2009-early 2010 (no?). Does this mean that it may not happen for a few more years? Or, with all the troopers eligible to retire, is a test still in the semi-near future?

Posted by: TopCop24

Maybe someone hacked into the mass.gov website and wanted to get a rise out of all the masscops members who post in the Next RTT thread???

Posted by: Deuce

I'm curious if NHSP is still hiring, but I can't tell w/o 300 posts of rumors and speculations. Phuzz? NHTrooper? You guys still hiring after your merger?

I know two people got letters yesterday, but from what i understand it's just a letter to say you are interested, no money for the class. Have to respond by 7/25 with a new background packet completed. When will they schedule PT tests after this?

Posted by: nirtallica

500 letters go out and you figure with all of responses this post has generated this board would be lighting up but it seems to have fell silent. Whats up with that?

Either everyone is staring out the window waiting for their favorite mailman to deliver the letter (and/or) they have been on the board awhile & know that it is time to lay low & keep their mouths shut.

Sooo, gotta go run an extra few miles....

Posted by: 193

Letter received three choices: Interested Now, Interested but not this next undetermined class, and Not interested remove my name from list. No Scheduled time/date for anything just respond with the original application if interested. I'm sure you guys/gals know this but someone earlier asked why so quiet so I thought I would let you know. See ya!!

Posted by: nirtallica

Plaind simple, there are only two choices 80 RTT or take the next test. If anyone here thinks that the 81st RTT will be off this list, don't even bother to check off the "interested now" box.

Posted by: j809

I hear this is for a possible Fall class. Is that a definite?

Posted by: 1811

Have they made it to the 94's yet?

Posted by: TopCop24

1811 I would say have to say no, based upon that they send out 500 letters and i believe there were well over 500 people who scored 95. The 79th dipped into the 95s, so I would imagine the 80th would be made up solely of 95s and people who either deferred or left the 79th due to medical issues.

Posted by: WaterPistola

I dont know why anyone would not check off interested now, well I do but...come on

The 79th was basically wiped out recently, due to the amount of recent retirees. Soon to be over 150 more by the end of the year. A class may be in the works, until then...... OT $$$$ !!!

Nothing like spending OT $$$ on a ZERO OT $$$ budget. Nice planning by Gov. Patrick...

Posted by: WaterPistola

what kind of idiot doesn't plan for OT in the budget?...oh i see

Posted by: misconceived

Have you even read his budget proposal?

The OT budget for FY09 is actually listed as DOUBLE the budget of FY08.

Shhhh it's Sensei Bob man.

Posted by: SinePari

Doesn't matter if the sheriffs, MBTA, and Civil Air Patrol merged with the MSP, and they opened the flood gates and graduate 500 troopers in the 80th...most barracks will still be a desk and two covering 300 square miles.

Guys from the 80th, along with the last few classes who don't want to work midnights with over an hour commute, pulling cars out of the woods when you just want to get home and sleep, will not actually be ROAD TROOPERS.

They will find some admin job close to home, nights, weekends and holidays off while driving an unmarked Taurus or Intrepid, claiming how badass they are to their friends and family, telling academy stories because they have no POLICE stories.

DO NOT RETURN A LETTER OF INTEREST if you plan on becoming one of THOSE people.

Oh, sweet lord...please grant unto your servant that simple request...

Not too many of THOSE jobs where you can lock up bad guys, too. It's a shame, really...

Doesn't that seperate the men from the boys ??????? I know it sucks for manpower but do you want guys who don't wanna work backing you up ?????

When you hit 10, 15, 20 years of a 4-2...you tend to get sick of the wife complaining.

If you get on the job and within 6 months you are in an Admin post...I tend to wonder why you went through 26 weeks of hell to be a secretary at the Academy or whatever other hole you have disappeared into.

This does not include admin jobs such as VFAS, Narcotics or SPDU that are excellent police units. However, guys who are just growing out their academy haircuts shouldn't be in those units anyway.

How do they get those assignments- are they dropping dimes? Aren't there seniority issues- does SPAM have a say in this regrad? Educate me here...

These are assignments that don't require any specialized training or experience, but are admin in nature. Investigation assignments have more stringent prerequisites.

You should do stand up, Sine!

I know bbelichick knows about the greatest trooper ever who worked CPAC. I wont re-hash that.

On a more serious note, if you dont want to work the road then I don't want you with me. You'll probably end up being a liability or make every one of your barracks mates look bad. I have been as frustrated as anyone but I'd rather have a small pack of hard-charging shit-magnets with me than a bunch of paper pushers who are being forced to watch my back. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by: Sniper

bb, I totally understand and agree........ I wasn't talking about the guys who have been there, done that, and now need to relax until retirement.

I no know who you talk about. What trooper you say worked for the CPAC? You are the making me the confused.

Sweet jesus...couldn't figure out which way rounds went in a magazine, but able to be assigned to one of the busiest CPACs in the state. You can't make that stuff up.

I don't know about anyone else, but I took the police exam to become a police officer.

In a way, I think we've become the victims of our own success; police salaries and benefits in Massachusetts are good enough to attract people who really don't want to be cops. They want the details, the Quinn Bill, plus all the pomp and circumstance without having to actually get their hands dirty.

Ok that was a 60MPH fastball right over the plate... How did they graduate from the SPA if they're confused on how to properly load a mag?

Now, there you go naming a gender...now you are labeled as a woman hater. Who cares if other department members were wearing their trauma plates on their back panels of their body armor at the range.

I've read some of the reports from the CPAC days...my God.

As far as the speech, let me paraphrase:

"When you are Officer, before you do a pursuit, you know you be dangerous doing pursuit."

At the risk of sounding like Corky from Life Goes On....

No SPA? I assume they were pre- merge Mets/RMV/Capital????

If not....am I the only one on the short bus trying to understand the troopers' vague references?!

As far as the speech, let me paraphrase:

"When you are Officer, before you do a pursuit, you know you be dangerous doing pursuit."

I was able to sit in on that same class as part of my special police training for my future deployment to the mall and I have to say that CPAC officers serve a multitude of purposes with a vast array of experience and are some of the best investigators in the state. They are on call 24/7 and are just a phone call away from investigating some of the most gruesome and prolific homicides and sexual assaults in the state. They are respected federally, locally and nationally. They pride themselves with the selfless dedication that they provide to an investigation and in turn work hand and hand with some of the best local and federal detectives in the Commonwealth. And then again there are those who are just looking to hide. Maybe it was Socrates, Plato or Judge Smails who said, "The world needs ditch diggers too."

don't know about anyone else, but I took the police exam to become a police officer.

In a way, I think we've become the victims of our own success; police salaries and benefits in Massachusetts are good enough to attract people who really don't want to be cops. Lord Acton said that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, in other words right the f*ck on my friend. The future of policing is bleak at best.

I find that very doubtful, as that particular speech was given at an RTT in the early/mid 1990's.

Listen Grasshopper........ This town is only big enough for one mall cop round these parts...... LOL

Maybe it was Socrates, Plato or Judge Smails who said, "The world needs ditch diggers too."

Maybe it was Alec Baldwin in The Departed saying "well the world needs BARTENDERS too".....

**Hijack in progress**

Baldwin had some good lines in that movie, but did you see "Glengarry Glenn Ross"? He rips apart some pathetic salesmen. This was the scene that Afleck totally plagarized Baldwin in "Boiler Room".

One of the best moments in "Miami Blues" was when Baldwin jumps that shady cop and steals his badge and his false teeth!

I PM'ed him, but he did not respond. I guess I have to call BS.

The main reason as to why I want to be a cop is to NOT work behind a desk, I'm sure there are other ways to make more money indoors without having to go to an academy but maybe that's just me...some people I guess.

Posted by: d02461

anyone know how old the oldest recruit to go through the academy was? some of these guys gotta be pushing 42 yo.

Posted by: emerlad

How could that be, the announcement states 35 years old entry.

There is an age limit for taking the State Police exam, not on the age for entering.

I believe the age limit is 34 years old for taking the exam, so if I was 34 when I took it, but didn't get called until 6 yrs later, guess what, I am 40 and I can still go through the Academy.

Follow the Legislative bills like this one filed each time on behalf of the over 35 crowd.......

A
N ACT AUTHORIZING JOHN KEARNEY TO BE ADMITTED INTO THE STATE
POLICE ACADEMY.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Notwithstanding any general or special law or rule to the
contrary, John Kearney shall be eligible to enroll in the next state
police academy and provided he meets all requirements, shall be
eligible for certification and appointment as a state police officer.

2 of us (78th RTT) turned 37 during the academy and we were the oldest ones in our class. There was also one guy that was 40 (sued to get on) in our class but some of us choose not to include him in our conversations. Be safe.

just because he sued to get on?
