Whats up with letters going out for the 80th RTT???????????

Posted by: tazoez

Dude, the 79th RTT hasn't even graduated yet. relax. breathe. and wait. The MSP is on their schedule ( and with $$$ issues due to big dig, I wouldn't hold my breath ) of if and when they decide to hold the 80th RTT or to have another exam in which you would have to start the whole process all over from the beginning with the rest of the people that took it in 2002 and the new people that are taking it.
Hope I didn't scare you too much but I am praying for new exam -- Just score high and you'll have no worries.

I'll tell you whats up with the letters that are going out, THEIR NOT!!! Go back to your day job and sit and wait. Don't contact them, they'll contact you! Three classes have just graduated in the past two years, it's kind of hard to justify another class with all the bodies we got now, even thought we're still a desk and two. Not to mention budget contraints, Big Dig fiasco, etc.. Man power is/will be at an all time high, I don't think Beacon Hill is going to be to desperate to throw money at us for another class that they think is probably not needed.

You'd think Div of Field Svc would be beefed up. But 150 graduate, hit the road, and then 150 others go to "units", hence a desk and two. Next time you stop a car full of shitheads with guns, dope, dead hookers or whatever in it, and your shift-mate is 50 miles away assisting a part-time dept with a domestic, think about where the hell the rest of the 2400 Troopers are!

Doesn't matter if he was 35 or less when he took the exam.

I am not sure how members of the 79th RTT will take the above quote, kind of indicates "not worthy, you are second class trooper",

Posted by: Mikey682

I don't think they're going to have a problem with the above quote, they seem to be having a good enough time already at the SPA, just look at the pics!

I really don't care how anyone "takes" the quote. I base my observation on what has gone before. If they prove me wrong, good for them. If they prove me right, 'nuff said. In any event, rest assured that when the class arrives for break-in, I will reveal my thoughts to them...just so everybody is on the same page.

As far as anyone being a "second class trooper", that is just what they are until they're a "trooper first class".

Relax, Francis...everybody gets an equal shot at proving themselves once they're on their own.

Hopefully the next SPA won't go through until 2050 cuz the last thing we need is more AAA with a badge on the highway with their citation hard-ons.

Did you hear his reasoning behind buying the caddy? He was asked why not use a CV like everyone else? He stated that there were none available. Since when did ford stop making the crow vic? What a dipshit

Pretty soon he will be rolling around on dubs and hitten the club...oopppps..did i just say that?

Posted by: tin63

Is there a possibility that they will appropriate for an 80th in the FY2008 Budget that the governor will be proposing at the end of this month if the Sup. budget doesn't fly???

I wish my Chief thought that Crown Vic's were no longer being made...We could have got a couple of Cadi's instead..

Posted by: j809

In a way he was correct. They no longer make the stretched version of the Crown Vic which was available as a tacxi cab version, I believe 6 inches longer. That was not a P71 package, P70 body style available (commercial/fleet): rear seats gain 6" of legroom.

Posted by: Foxy85

I think he should go all out, hes already got the heat on him for buying a Cadi....hell throw some spinners on it too....

From www.fleet.ford.com

The 2007 Crown Victoria Commercial Taxi Package continues to offer durable, superior handling, RWD construction and a LWB (6" stretch version available), making Crown Victoria the commercial heavy-duty/taxi service vehicle standard

Duval's new mode of transportation = More taxes for less services, but "TOGETHER, WE CAN"

Apparently the State helicopter didn't have enough room.

You can't justify bad behavior, by pointing out somebody else's bad behavior.

Posted by: Badge 2

Just curious what scores are they at?
What did the 79th have?
I thought I heard they had gotten down to around 96.

Posted by: tin63

I believe that they are at 95's now. There are still some higher deferrment scores but I think overall they are at 95 now.

Does anybody have any credible info as to whether they plan to appropriate for a class or are you just carrying on the rumors that you have heard?

Posted by: localboy

Anybody remember his campaign promise of 1,000 new police officers...???

Posted by: JoninNH

It's a common political scam. 1,000 police officers doesn't mean a thousand additional faces running around on the street. Over his term in office a thousand police officers will retire or resign, and the municipalities and the State Police will replace them. Devalue can then claim to have put 1,000 new cops on the street.

Bull Hockey! The guy is an avowed marxist. He believes, as a member of the ruling democrat power elite that he is above the "common man" (or 'rabble'). He even has a dacha in Richmond. If a republican acted in this manner there'd be hell to pay, "blue stocking", "brahmin" et cetera. Nice double standard...but then, I forgot, dems good, repubs bad!

Progressive=marxist=collectivist=socialist=fascist =communist= DEMOCRAT.

Just keep pulling the levers for democrats...they control 87% of the elected offices in this state...just how does anyone logically blame the republicans for stuff being messed-up in this state?

The democrats control this state: if stuff is messed-up, it's their fault, GENIUS.

Ouch! On the list of bad decisions to make, that one would be on top...

Just curious...were you trying to get your finances in order prior to the SPA? That seems to be the number one reason people deferred, sans military deployments.

Posted by: TopCop24

79th graduated a handful of 98s and 97s, majority were 96s and a handful of 95s. I can proudly say I was a 96 that graduated from the 79th, was on standby, then was handed my letter of appointment at orientation the week before the academy started. How sweet it was

I have a buddy who was a 99 and graduated from the 79th........ he had some hurdles at home but looke like he did the right thing by jumping onboard for the 79th......

Just curious, where are you getting this info. from? I have been hearing different but can't confirm or deny to any degree so until I see a new test announcement or another class I guess we will have to wait and see.

Posted by: d02461

A combo of a lot of different things swayed my decision, but I knew that if I wasn't going to go in with everything in order and at 110% that I would let someone else have the opportunity. I just hope the guy that got my spot finished...................

Here a fact:
Had you scored higher or didn't defer you wouldn't have this problem. You'd either be on the road or looking for a new career as a quitter. Sorry to put in such blunt terms, but these "80th rtt yes/no" are getting annoying.

Get off the computer and show some initiative. Call the SP or physically go to the SPA and ask then you wont need to worry about hearsay and mean troopers who are tired of seeing this topic. Sadly I think some of you will continue to ask until someone says "yes, it's a go" even though the answer might be "no-go".

I said that "80th rtt yes/no" threads are getting annoying, not "81st rtt yes/no" threads.

Posted by: tarc

I do agree that all these new rtt threads get old, but for some of you recent rtt graduates that post statements like, "you should have scored higher, etc," don't forget, guys/gals senior to you got on w/scores in the upper 80's on the previous test. So let's not start tooting the "score higher and you...." horn, it's just the way the ball bounced.

I graduated almost 18 years ago, hardly a recent rtt graduate.
Save the "guys/gals who scored in upper 80's" talk until you know what you are talking about. Maybe the upper 80's were equivalent to upper 90's now because the test was tweaked.. just a thought.

We're sitting pretty good with the numbers on paper, but I think there are somewhere around 300+ Troopers eligible to retire. Once all of the smoke clears, eventually we'll be short-handed again like everybody else.

Don't count on it for a while. Golden Boy Deval did not fund our OT line item. If his budget were to pass as is, we would have ZERO funding for OT. Never has there been ZERO funding in the OT budget since our OT became a separate line item.

Posted by: Wolfman

Jerry laughs at the idea of another class...

Posted by: TMONEY

Having a line item in the budget would be nice, but they could fund another class from the SP general fund. If let's say 200 out of the 300 who have their papers in decide to retire today, would the MSP just run at a manpower shortage for a year, and hope no one else retired, or do you think they would "find" some money and put another class on? It looks good that there is no money appropriated for a new test, but there again, if they want one, they will find the necessary funds.

Posted by: j809

Someday there will be an 80th. might be a while from now

Three questions:

1. How reliable is your source (or are you MSP and have first hand knowledge)?

2. Where in the budget do you see the appropriations for the funding for this -- I double checked and did not see funding.

3. If they are doing another class off this list, how far down are they going (I know that it is of no use to me anyways since I have to take the next exam, but for people that are waiting off this one, they might find this part useful).

Advice I took on board, "Don't let it consume you"... if it comes around it's a bonus...a BIG bonus at this stage. You can hope but don't let it consume you or hold you back.

1. The source happens to be close to Mrs. Patrick's secretary. Why else would she quit a $72,000 job but to join the MSP and get any assignment she wants from the governor?

2. The budget has been funded from the money saved from the secretary quitting, the sale of the Caddy on E-Bay, and the curtain rods that were returned. (Everyone thought the curtains were expensive but they only hid the cost of the solid gold rods.) Also, all of the MSP helicopters have been decommissioned. According to Deval, "If I can't ride in them, no one can!"

3. They will be going as far down as it takes to get to the secretary.

This happens to come from a good source who probably might know what is going on but can't say for sure because he wasn't there.

Actually I just looked at the mass.gov website and the house has NOT posted their recommendations as of yet.

Any chance of the state finding a Surplus before the fiscal year ends on June 30th?

I don't know about anyone else but this whole thread reminds me of taking a trip with the kids, you're moving along and they keep asking, "Are we there yet?".
So you tell them "No, we'll be there in about 2 hours."
10 mintues later: "Are we there yet?"
15 minutes after that: "Are we almost there?"

Then, the bigger kids chime in with their words of wisdom: "I think I saw a sign that said it's only 5 miles away." when you know for a fact you're still 100 miles out.
You try again to explain that it will be awhile.
But that's not enough for your carload of Einsteins: "Last time we came here it didn't take this long."

Then you unexpectedly run into a little traffic. Your 90 remaining minutes have now turned into another 2 1/2 hours. It should be fairly obvious to everyone that you're moving at little to no speed, but still you hear: "Are we ALMOST there?"

You look at your wife; she looks back at you - neither side of the family has a genetic history that includes an IQ of an eggplant, yet once more you hear it:
"Are we there yet?"

It's all you can do to keep from turning around, smacking them in the heads, and telling them to just "SHUT THE FVCK UP, WE'LL GET THERE WHEN WE GET THERE!!!"

But you know that they're just simple kids, otherwise they would just LISTEN, PAY ATTENTION, and FIGURE IT OUT.

...might just be me though.

I heard from my source, who heard from his source, who heard it directly from Deval that there will be no 80th. The plan is for the MSP to absorb the Transit Police, Boston Housing, all of the Sheriff departments, and the left over Muni's to bring them up to full staff.

I also heard from someone that knows someone's brother who lives next door to a Trooper that long term plans include assimilating all local departments and then conquering Rhode Island.

Posted by: Danman

hahaha.. would make a good story

Posted by: PBiddy35

Cant wait to get Rhode Island. I like staying at their beaches better then the cape! Anyways the rest of the country probly won't notice, I remember a thing on the radio WBRU (Providence) where Rhode Islanders called in about how people from other states think their state is Long Island and vice versa.

But really, does anyone think that even the smallest chatter around MSP or the statehouse regarding another class will go WITHOUT being brought up here?

What you want to do is call your friend with a spoof card, shwoing the number as GHQ and tell him to report for a PT test at New Braintree in 1 week with his updated background package. You'd be doing him a f avor, i bet he'll be running everyday.

Ahh, if you have to explain yourself why you wrote what you did...OWNED! C'mon man, lighten up Francis

Probably my absolute favorite Larson Far Side Cartoon, Wolfman.

There will be an 80th RTT eventually, that I'm sure, but when... that's the mystery. Just be patient...if you have a local department, another state agency or the Feds banging your door down then go. We'll still be here, and if you happen get that fabled acceptance letter, then you can always come back. We have plenty of people who left CSP, NHSP, VSP, federal agencies and countless local departments. Or stay where you are if that makes you happy. The point is don't put your entire existence on hold for something that may happen tomorrow or two years from now.

Posted by: Edmizer1

There is no way to tell when the 80th will happen. I'm too old and fat to get on the State so I'm only a lurker. I followed the process on the 75th because I thought I had a chance then. That class was definately on, then off, like 3 times. Whether the 8oth will happen this year will depend on the legislature and back room bargaining between which line items will be allowed or cut. The MSP has little to do with the process other than getting the thumbs up from the lawmakers.

I'm sorry, is there another way on besides taking the test?? Being part of the family tree wasn't part of my entrance package....Merit equals passing test and background then passing RTT...if he had right score and "passed" to get on "by his own merits" I'll cry foul on that....HAS to be more to it than letting on

Posted by: MM1799

He probably quit and that's his reason for not being on the SP. Or maybe he knew he couldn't make the sacrafice and that was his reason for never trying...

That's nothing Sine. My good buddy was invited to an orgy with 10 nympho supermodels but he declined because he didn't want any of the ladies to feel left out.

Whoa. I was just asking if anyone really knew what was going on at the Academy and if they worked there. MSP is a large agency and just like every where else rumors fly around all the time. Someone who actually works at the SPA or has direct contact with someone that works there would have the best information.

I'm not trying to get into a pissing match with Troopers on this board that was not my intent. If how I worded my post was in a confrontational/know-it-all manner I apologize.

(Just to put it out there I did not take the last test.)

Posted by: dfc2502

I doesn't matter where you work on the job, or the rumors you here - follow the BUDGET. The answer to your question is there.

And then wait for the posting of positions for Drill Instructors. Then you know it's a done-deal.

If anyone here did actually work at the SPA then I can come just shy of guaranteeing they would not be posting any solid info on this or any other site. Aside from being against the rules of Policy and Procedure (AKA the bible), I'm sure they could care less about getting that type of info out to the general public. Anything anyone is posting here is strickly rumor and internal hope. Good luck kids.

Posted by: Wolfman

I'm willing to guess that the last thing most guys on the SP want right now is another class, more competition for limited cruisers, equipment, and OT hours...

Posted by: AFchris77

i spoke with someone who works at the academy about a week ago. with the budget there is no plan for an 80th rtt anytime soon. rumors about a test in june are exactly what they are....rumors. his words exactly at the end of our conversation were "better luck next year". there's just no money. sorry

Posted by: Mitpo62

A place like Taxachusetts crying poor mouth. Now that's funny!

Posted by: ponyboy

Here's another rumor I heard. I heard the next test possibly in August, but again it's just heresay.

Posted by: Edmizer1

Exam will probably not be until late '07 or '08 if even then. It takes time to put out the test for bid for a company to develop it and about five months from posting it to actual test. Human Resources Dept has never given any major test during the summer. An earlier post said it right, follow the budget from the legislature - that's where you will find out.

Posted by: TROOPS33

Am I wrong in thinking that there is no way they would have a 4th RTT off of the same test? Have they ever done that before? Wouldn't they re-test? I deferred from the 77th and graduated from the 78th.

Posted by: Foxy85

Whats teh SP PAT like....I can't find anything on it really....Aside from the fact I know its more of a test than the Civil Service PAT for police officers....if one even really considers that a "test". Just curious as to their requirements, and the times in which you must do them....

Posted by: 94c

here is the 135th post...

what are the chances of an 80th RTT this year?

Posted by: Rock

I'd say there's a 50/50 chance of the 80th RTT starting this year but there's only a 10% chance of that.

Posted by: Wolfman

If it doesn't happen this year there's a really good chance it would be some other time in the future.

Posted by: Mikey682

Alright, enough bullshit. I was talking with someone at the SPA today and he TOLD ME directly that there WILL BE an 80th RTT!!!!

He just wasn't sure when.

Posted by: misconceived

I heard from my friends uncles cousins mothers neighbor that they decided to skip the 80th RTT and go straight to the 81st RTT. That way we can lock this thread and start a new 1!!!

Seriously, I too am waiting to here when the 80th is going to get called up. In the meantime....follow all the damn advice and keep on running.

Posted by: 94c

the only way they'll go straight to the 81st is if everyone defers the 80th.

I don't see that happening.

10? are you really that pessimistic? im hoping 2 and if i dont score high enough on it...at least i'll know i had a shot at it

Posted by: sean37

well said jlt, i hope i am in it as well. i went through the stages back in 2005/2006 and just missed the 79th. i still keep up my running and never will. and for the record; i scored a 95 and advanced through the stages minus the backround investigation. im 99% sure i recognize a couple of faces in the last academy (from website pics) that made it in the 79th. that is how i am gauging where im at. good luck to all !!

Though many from that test are willing and capable, it's highly unlikely. Again, you can't shit the money if it ain't in the budget.

Posted by: WaterPistola

i meant the next budget, at least money for a new test

Posted by: RodneyFarva

I think we are going to see another class off this list.

Posted by: Edmizer1

Unfortunately, no matter what we think, the politics of the moment will prevail. The second class of the 1998(?) test was cancelled due to lack of funding and everyone said a new test was being planned. Then suddenly it was funded and actually in session about two months later after a marathon prescreening of candidates. This test was then apparently definately dead and a new test was being planned. Then a small class that nobody expected suddenly came out of nowhere. Nobody knows when/if anything will happen. It will be a combination of the state pd's request coupled with whatever the legislature's plate is at that moment.

Posted by: tin63

Does anyone have any insight as to whether the State Police are asking for a new RTT class off of the old 2002 test list for FY2009. Or are they looking to have a new test. The Governor's budget proposal should be coming out fairly soon.

Posted by: dcorn18

I just have a couple questions, if anyone can help give me some information. When the state police give a test does this mean that when they have another academy they chose people from that test? If not how many tests do they pick from in previous years, and is it possible to get chosen to go to the academy if you take the most recent exam? Thanks.

Posted by: Sniper

hahahahahahahaa

Posted by: RodneyFarva

yes if and when they test the old list becomes null and void.

He probably isn't. But if he is, it's probably because he's just one fucked up individual and may want to show that he has taken some action to reduce crime for future political endeavors hiding the fact that he coddles criminals.

The last test was administered in 2002. They have taken 3 classes from that test. Once a new test is administered, a list of names is compiled by score. Once the new list is certified, the old list from the previous test is gone. There is no date established for when the next test will be conducted.
