BECKY ROBINETTE WRIGHT

Chesterfield County and City of Richmond Police Officers showed what teamwork can do when two bank robbers were arrested just minutes after robbing a local bank.
The SunTrust bank branch at 12551 Jefferson Davis Highway was robbed on Jan. 3. Police said no one was injured during the robbery.
Officials said one man entered the bank at about 1317 hours, approached a bank teller and presented a note that demanded money. The man fled the bank and got into a waiting van driven by a second man.
Officers conducted a traffic stop in the Hillside Court area in Richmond with the assistance of Richmond Police.
The passenger bailed and took off running with police in hot foot pursuit. After a brief foot chase the suspect was taken into custody by Chesterfield County Officers. The driver was taken into custody without incident.
Police arrested Rodney E. Smith, 39, of the 2400 block of Brady Street in Richmond and Jeffrey B. Smith, 47, of the 10200 block of Ashcake Road in Ashland. Rodney Smith is charged with robbery, and Jeffrey Smith is charged with robbery and accessory after the fact. Both men are being held without bond in the Chesterfield County Jail pending March 7 hearings at 8:30 a.m. in the Chesterfield County General District Court.
