BRISTOL, R.I. - A mother has been charged with allowing teenagers to drink alcohol at her house on New Year's Eve.
Jessica Thomas was charged under the state's "social host law," which allows parents to be fined if they are home when teens are drinking.
Thomas faces a fine of up to $1,000 and a maximum six-month prison sentence if convicted of the misdemeanor charge.
Police said Thomas poured drinks for some of the teens at the party, which included her son.
Officers came to the house after getting a noise complaint. Police said they smelled marijuana when they entered the house and also found 48 cans of beer, eight bottles of liquor and a bottle of wine.
