Two men unhurt after rollover accident By Angeljean Chiaramida Staff writer
SALISBURY - Two young men walked away from a rollover accident at Toll Road and Route 1 yesterday afternoon, according to police and fire personnel who responded to Salisbury's first traffic accident of the new year.
According to investigating officer Steven Sforza, James Crafton, 20, of Salisbury was driving a gray Dodge Ram pickup truck down Toll Road. Turning left at the Route 1 intersection, Crafton failed to yield for a smaller Chevy pickup truck driven by Matt Souther, 18, of Maine, who was driving west on Toll Road, attempting to cross Route 1, police said.
Crafton smashed into Souther's vehicle, Sforza said, and the impact of the collision was so forceful, Souther's vehicle flipped and rolled.
"Both drivers walked away from the accident uninjured, but I don't know how," Sforza said.
Fire personnel said there were no hazardous spills that occurred during the accident, and no one was transported to the hospital by the AMR ambulance, which responded to the scene as part of standard procedure.
Crafton was cited for driving after license suspension, failing to yield at an intersection and vehicle equipment failure, because of two bald rear tires, Sforza said.
Sforza said the intersection of Toll Road - which also acts as the off ramp for Interstate 95 - and Route 1 can be a dangerous, especially for young drivers.
"They don't understand they're supposed to yield at that intersection, and they can tend to be driving too fast," Sforza said. "I'd attribute this accident to driver inexperience."
