Main Page VT Man Adds Hate Crime To Drunk Driving After Accident

Police say a St. George, VT man committed a hate crime after he was rushed to the hospital following a drunk-driving crash.
Troopers say Allen Pike, 28, crashed into a tractor trailer on Route 7 in Charlotte at about 10:15 p.m. December 21. He was taken to Fletcher Allen, where police say he started fighting medical workers who were trying to help him. Emergency room workers, security workers and a state trooper had to subdue Pike and put him in restraints.
Police say Pike then began an onslaught of racial slander and degradation aimed at an African-American emergency room worker. Police say he also threatened the technician.
Pike is charged with drunk driving, third offense, driving with a lifetime-suspended license, disorderly conduct and a hate crime.
