STOUGHTON— Police say a man arrested Saturday on indecent assault charges is accused of groping and then beating a woman.

Richard Fernandes, 39, of 99 Porter St., Room 15, Stoughton, was arraigned Monday in Stoughton District Court on two counts of indecent assault and battery and assault and battery.

Judge Robert Baylor ordered Fernandes held on $1,000 bail in the Norfolk County House of Correction in Dedham pending a Jan. 23 hearing.

Fernandes is appealing his bail, according to court records.

Police said the woman, a neighbor of Fernandes in the rooming house at 99 Porter St., said Fernandes slapped her on the buttocks in The Governor's Pub on Monk Street about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

This happened after an altercation that began earlier at the rooming house, police said.

“It seems he just walked into the bar where she was at,” officer Robert Donovan said.

The woman said Fernandes later repeatedly grabbed at her and then punched her twice in the head outside Sal and Katie's Restaurant on Washington Street in Stoughton Center, police said.

Police located Fernandes at the rooming house and arrested him, police said.
