Belt Flashlight

Does anyone have any suggestions for a belt flashlight? I have a Stinger, and am not satisfied with it.

Suggestions?

I use the INOVA LED Light (recommended by crvtte65). I believe the model is the t4. The new LED lights are better then the one I currently own and you cant compare the battery life because they last forever. Maybe the folks from liotec (which have ben advertising on this site) http://www.liotec.com/ will hook you up with a trial.

Inova Lights are very nice. The 1 AA one has replaced my AA Mag Light. The Inova "Police" type light is sold at target for about $50, and takes those funny type of C-123A or whatever batteries. It would make a good belt flashlight.

I have a stinger as a backup flashlight in my cruiser, but my belt flashlight is a surefire. They're expensive, but they're the best. But if you look around the web, (not at surefire's website, they charge full price), many police-supply companies offer reasonable prices for them.

I carry several lights in the field with me. I have a stinger as well, but im in love with my Blackhawk Night Ops Gladius 9v...120 lumens. It lights up entire fields and it stun suspects momentarily.

I can't say enough about the rechargeable Strion. Plenty of light, don't know it's there. A gun dealer recommended it to me. He was right on the money.

Look at some of the outdoor type places and websites. Bass Pro SHops was carrying a few different types of small belt lights (Streamlight and Surefire). I have a Streamlight Scorpion and a Surefire Z2 Combatlight. Both are very bright. Check out the Streamlight TL2 - it is small and comes with a pocket clip so you dont have to try to find a holder.

Surefire with molded holder, light and very bright.

If I can help you guys with lights please let me know.
We are based right in Framingham. I have dealt with several police officers and they have all been verfy satisfied.

Notes:Thanks
John

I have spent hundreds of dollars on flashlight in my pathetic career and my word of advice is the stinger only last 1 hour and if you are like me its less because I forget to charge it every month. I would go to Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, and look for a maglite or a light that fits your needs and stay away from the rip off police supply stores. PS get a flash light battery throw away and not the rechargeable type. The Maglite 2 C Battery is a suggestion

I keep a full-size rechargeable Mag-Lite (best light IMO) in the cruiser, I just like to have something small on the gunbelt for times when I leave the big boy behind for some reason. The Stinger was great when I first got it, but it seems to have gotten less powerful over the years, even with fresh bulbs & batteries.

Posted by: kojack1

Delta I had the same problem with my old stinger. I just bought one of the new Stinger LED rechargable flashlights and as much as I like it I kinda wish I went with the surefire light. Try that one I have heard good things about it

Posted by: JohnB

The Stinger is 125 Lumens. Just to put things in perspective We have flashlights for $25.00 that put put 125 Lumens.

John

Posted by: Delta784

John, what would you recommend for something I can keep in a case on my gunbelt? I'm looking for something powerful, and am willing to deal with a bit larger size for more brightness.

Posted by: justanotherparatrooper

I love my surefire, though the batteries can be pricey.

I have a Strion as well. Love it and it holds its charge FOREVER with normal use. I bought it as a backup to the TWO full size MagLights I have in my duty bag. I do wish I had it on my belt but am fortunate to not have much real estate available to mount a holster for it.........

For that light 50 minutes with primaries.
Rechargeables are getting better but they still have a ways to go. You also have to be careful of lights that you cannot change the batteries in. If you get a rechargeable light make sure you get one that you can replace the batteries in from time to time.

Check out
www.batterystation.com

www.batteryjunction.com

I have gotten CR123 batteries from them for $1 each good quality. Do not buy them in the store order a box of them from a site. They only loose 1% capactiy each year so they can be stored for a long time.

Currently we have a light called the Defender that is 260 Lumens for $84.00 (before 10% discount) You will not find another light with it's size that is this bright.

Another light that is a good value is the Sniper for $60.00
170 Lumens

These 2 are the most popular we have with law enforcement. They use 2 cr123a batteries.
You can purchase rechargeable kits for them @ $45.00
1 battery
1 charger

We also have the LED upgrades for Surefire so for anyone that has a Surefire that use a p60 Bulb we can upgrade the light to 260 Lumens

Thanks

I gave my dad a strion for his birthday, that is one bright little light.

Posted by: andy0921

How long does the battery last on the Defender? I will probably invest in a new light in the near future.

I just picked up a Streamlight twin task..uses two 6 volt batteries and had both LED and a regular bulb (Kryptonite I think) ...it's nice and small...fits on the duty belt....I was running into the same problem with the Stinger..I actually had to get a new battery 3 months after I bought it as the one that came with it wouldn't hold a charge...works okay now... I also carry a car charger in my cruiser bag and I still use it when I work at my town pd job, although I may pick up another twin task as I've been very happy with it..

I still use my T4 on my belt! Wouldnt switch to a strion or stinger (even though I have a Stinger XT... thanks Masscops raffle )

My back up is a Wolf Eyes Raider w/an EO-9 lamp assembly from Lumen Factory, using 2 rechargeable li-ion 18500 batteries. It's a great light and fits in an ASP belt holster. I'm considering the Wolf Eyes Q5 Cree upgrade.

The Raider is a great light. Are you happy with the Lumens Factory module? We are thinking about offering the line to our customers. The Q5 is blinding. I will be posting video of it in the Raider on our site sometime this week.

John

I too have been through the Stingers, the Stinger XT and the good Ol' Maglite. Currently I'm using the INOVA T4 - absolutely hands down the best yet!! I highly recommend it.

Posted by: Eamonn Wright

John, I've got several Lumens Factory lamp assemblies, and I think they're great incans. I'll be checking your sight for the Q5 video this week.

That's good to know. I have a note on my to do list to call them and sign the dealer agreement.
I hope to have the video complete this weekend.

Thanks

Excellent, John. Could you post the link here so I don't forget to check?

I'm actually shopping for a light for the same reason. My Stinger is dead as a door nail. For the most part I use the car mag light (good because it fits nice in your armpit on traffic stops - mostly what I do), but I want a small belt flashlight just so that I always have a light source on me. The other problem I've run in to is finding a light for which I can find a high gloss holder for.

Yes you can order online or you can PM me what you want, I can send you an adjusted total with your Masscops discount and you can send via PAYPAL. I have holsters @4.99 but they are more like belt loop not clip on.

Let me know

Thanks
John

While doing the local gun shows here I have has several Police officers tell me about the issue with finding a good holder for the lights. I have shared this with the manufacturer. Many have told me that they prefer a clip.

On another note we are bringing in the complete line of lighting solutions from FoxFury and they have a light called the Scout that has a handy clip on feature:

http://www.foxfury.com/products/scout_series/index.htm

They are not as bright but they are certainly handy and serve other purposes like identifying narcotics, tracking and night vision.

I expect to have these in stock very soon.

This link shows the Q5HO Led lamp.
This LED lamp is designed to fit in lights that have P-60 style LED lamps.
Surefire has many models that use this type of lamp.

You can also get this lamp in a 4 stage digital version. The digital version has High,Low,Med and strobe

JohnB, why don't you list your prices on your web site?

The prices are listed here are the LED prices:

Is there something in particular that you need a price on?

Thanks

+1 Another vote here for the Strion. Small, light on parity with some C/D cells. Charge lasts a good hour or more for me, and it recharges mighty fast.

Posted by: SPG

My first post. I recently got a Pelican 7060 and I really like it. It replaces my now retired Surefire 9N. SPG

Posted by: robodope

I bought the Wolf Eyes from LIOTEC and John was great to deal with. The light was well worth the money and nothing has the power it does for the money. People in my dept are asking about it

Posted by: jdmac33

the belt flash lights just dont do it when you make a car stop and are looking around, you cant beat the big lights.

Posted by: Nighttrain

I like to kick it old school with a special order 9 D-Cell mag light. After you work out the balance issues it rocks the house.
