Police found stolen weapons inside a Lake County house.
At around 6 a.m. officers from the Tavares Police Department and the Lake County Sheriffs Department went to the house with flash grenades and blew out the window of the home to serve a search warrant.
Police said Matthew Ray, 20, had stolen weapons inside his home.
While serving the search warrant, detectives said they found marijuana and a blue tub and a wooden box in the back yard full of 21 stolen handguns, shotguns, rifles and ammunition.
"That was very, very disturbing," neighbor Terry Harbor said.
Harbor said the SWAT team's flash grenade rattled him awake as they entered the home next door to serve a search warrant.
He said he can't believe his quiet young neighbor was arrested.
"To me he's a really nice guy. I would never think he would do something like that," Harbor said.
Officials said the man who lives in the house has been arrested on charges of altering the serial numbers of the guns so they would not be readily identifiable.
The guns have been taken in as evidence.
"All these guns were stolen from a Tavares burglary from a private collector and there's a lot of different types of weapons so they pose a significant threat so we're glad to have them off the streets," Sgt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.
Police said they believe Ray had criminal intent because of the lengths he went to to hide the guns.
Ray faces weapon and drug charges.
