MANCHESTER, N.H. -- An animal rights group has given New Hampshire prisons high marks for giving inmates access to vegetarian food. The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ranked the state fifth in a national survey of access to vegetarian food choices. Bruce Friedrich -- the group's vice president -- commended the state for respecting the beliefs of vegetarian inmates and for protecting their health. Vegetarian food served in the state's prisons includes meatless pot pies, meatballs made of lentils and tofu sandwiches. Jeff Lyons, spokesman for the state Department of Corrections, said the department prides itself on giving inmates menu options. He said keeping inmates healthy also holds down spending on health care.
I believe I just heard Massachusetts beat NH and actually came in second in the nation in this remarkable measure of important information.

What a joke! They commit crimes, take away family members and we have to give them a choice on what they want to eat...please. The choice should be...eat it or don't eat it!

Over 20 years on this job and I never met a vegetarian criminal.
