SAN JOSE, Calif. - State and federal agents arrested five people and seized an estimated $1 million in methamphetamine and other drugs during a series of raids across Northern California, authorities said Friday.
The raids in Menlo Park, San Jose, Modesto and other cities Thursday were the culmination of an 18-month investigation, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration said. The raids netted 23 pounds of methamphetamine, 9 kilograms of cocaine, a shotgun, about $500,000 in cash and five vehicles, including a 1967 Corvette and a 2007 Cadillac Escalade, the DEA said.
Authorities said they had disrupted a drug trafficking cell that has ties to organizations spread from Southern California to Georgia with links to Mexico.
Officers arrested five people on suspicion of possessing drug proceeds and firearms charges.
Arrested were Roberto Garcia, 63, of San Jose; Matilde Lopez, 28, of San Jose; Luz Santa Reyes, 23, of San Jose; Maria Reyna, 38, of Menlo Park; and Orlando Davison, 54, of San Martin.
Four people are still at large, including the alleged ringleader of the drug trafficking cell, Antonio Contreras Abarca, 42, of Menlo Park. The other outstanding arrest warrants are for Maria Castaneda, 51, of Hemet Riverside County; Raul Mendoza, 20, of Tracy; and Eric Jimenez Barragan, 22, of Riverbank Stanislaus County.
