The Golden Arches picked up the $1,600 cost of printing report-card jackets for the 2007-2008 school year in Seminole County, Fla., in exchange for a Happy Meal coupon on the card's cover. With 27,000 elementary school kids taking their report-card jackets home to be signed three or four times a year, that's less than 2 cents per impression.
Children who earn all A's and B's, have two or fewer absences or exhibit good behavior are entitled to a free happy meal at a local McDonald's -- so long as they present their report card.
Naturally, there are critics. Nanny-state food nazis, veggies cultists and obesity alarmists consider the campaign a new insidious low for corporate behavior.
Of course, corporate behavior will never stoop so low as to match the indoctrination of captive schoolkids on leftist political propaganda regarding tree hugging, alternative sexuality and global warming.
When I was in elementary and high school we had book covers given to us by Coca Cola. These covers were personalized to our school and contained the spots calendar. I don't remember my kid ever getting a book cover to protect the school books and I don't think I'd mind if some company would take this step to preserve the books for re-use while getting its name before potential customers. To me it's sort of like those calendar used by some restaurants.
