(WBZ)DORCHESTER A woman who attacked an elderly woman in her Dorchester apartment Tuesday morning is on the loose and Boston police are asking for the public's help to find her.
The 87-year-old woman was alone in her apartment on Buttonwood Court around 8:18 a.m., when a younger woman knocked on the door and asked to use a phone, Boston police officials said.
Police said the elderly woman allowed the attacker into her home, gave her a glass of water and let her use her phone, police said.
The woman then hit the elderly victim over the head with an object and knocked her unconscious, police said.
When she awoke moments later, she tried to leave the apartment but was stopped by the intruder, who was then holding a knife, police said.
The intruder eventually fled the house after rummaging through the elderly woman's belongings, stealing jewelry and other valuables.
A passerby called police when they saw the victim standing in her doorway bleeding.
The elderly woman was taken to Boston Medical Center by ambulance. Her condition is unknown.
Police canvassed the area for the attacker to no avail.
The assailant is described as a white woman in her mid 30s to early 40s. She is said to have shoulder length brown hair, is about 5 feet 5 inches tall with a medium build. She was last seen wearing a long brown-colored jacket. Police said her right foot may be broken because she was wearing a cast.
