MARSHFIELD - Police arrested a Marshfield man on Saturday and charged him in two car break-ins.

Police said they received a call at about 3:40 a.m. Saturday from a couple at 9th Road and Foster Avenue who heard a noise outside their home.

The couple said that they looked out the window and saw two young men trying to break into their car. The suspects apparently got spooked and ran off. The couple gave police a description of the two men, police said.

A short time later, an officer spotted Christopher O’Kane, 20, who matched the description, on Surf Avenue. The officer spoke to O’Kane as a police dog tracked a scent from the scene to O’Kane, who was then arrested.

O’Kane, of 37 Monitor Road, was charged with breaking and entering during the nighttime and disturbing the peace.

Later Saturday morning, a resident reported that another car was broken into during the night and a laptop computer was taken. O’Kane was charged with breaking into that motor vehicle with intent to commit a felony and larceny over $250.

Police said they are still investigating the break-ins. They are trying to recover the stolen property and to identify the second person allegedly involved.
