TAMARAC, Fla. -- The search continues for a man who stabbed a Broward Sheriff's Office sergeant early Sunday morning. Sgt. Lisa Disavino radioed dispatch at 1:47 a.m. to advise that she was investigating a suspicious man at a bus stop along Commercial Boulevard near Nob Hill Road. A few minutes later, she radioed again, requesting help, saying she had been stabbed in the stomach. "It's very frightening," said BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion. "You never want to hear a deputy has been injured in the line of duty." For hours, a sheriff's helicopter, SWAT team members and police officers from several nearby cities searched for the man. Disavino, 29, has been with the BSO seven years and was promoted to road patrol sergeant about a year and a half ago. In 2002, she was honored for trying to rescue a man from a burning sport utility vehicle on Interstate 95. "It's out of control," said resident Dottie Pace, reacting to the news that another BSO deputy was injured on the job. Earlier this month, BSO Deputy Paul Rein was laid to rest. Authorities said Michael Mazza, an inmate the detention deputy was transporting to court, fatally shot him in an escape attempt. In August, Sgt. Chris Reyka was shot and killed outside a Pompano Beach Walgreens. His killer remains at large. A few days before Reyka was killed, Deputy Maury Hernandez was shot in the head. Although he still struggles as a result of the shooting, Hernandez has made a miraculous recovery. Disavino was treated and released from Broward General Medical Center. She is expected to make a full recovery. The man is described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s. He has short brown hair and was last seen wearing a green Miami Dolphins No. 99 jersey and white shorts. The BSO said the man is considered dangerous and anyone with information should contact 911 immediately and not try to approach him.
