HOUSTON -- A nanny was charged with injury to a child after an incident was caught on tape, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
Robin Mayberry, 23, cared for two young girls -- Adelay and Avery Acquard, officials said.
Their mother, JaNae Acquard, said she thought her children were in good hands until she saw a video of a woman identified as Mayberry getting rough with 17-month-old Adelay "You can't describe how you feel. I told my mother I felt emotions I didn't even know I had," JaNae Acquard said.
"Robin is thumping the baby in the face and you hear the pop. Every time she thumps the baby in the mouth, it's pop, pop, pop," father Steven Acquard said.
Mayberry went to court Tuesday morning. She's charged with a third-degree felony -- injury to a child. A conviction carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
As a condition of her bond, Judge Michael Wilkinson barred her from working as a childcare provider.
Meantime, investigators are checking old video to see if it had happened before.
"We're still looking into the case. There's a lot of videos we have to look at -- we have to investigate. We have to see what happened," assistant district attorney George Weissfisch said.
That's what most concerns JaNae Acquard now. Mayberry cared for her children for almost a year.
"I wanted them to grow up in a happy loving home, and always have that safety and always have that security, and know that no matter what these girls have their parents. And I feel like she took that away," JaNae Acquard said.
Mayberry was released on $5,000 bond.
The Acquards met Mayberry at a day care center where Mayberry used to work.
The Acquards said Mayberry knew she was being recorded when she cared for the children.
Robin would never be seen again if that were my kids.
