Anyone have any info on derry police department? I see that they are testing in January. Anyone know how many they are looking to put on, and secondly do they test as often as manchester and nashua?

Derry had a test a month or two ago and I am unsure how many they were putting on, but about 75-100 took the test if I can remember. Starting pay is good, looks like a busy town from their logs. It seems to me only from recent memory that Nashua tests very often, with Manchester maybe 2X-3X times per year, the only thing that bothers me is the $35.00 fee that Derry charges. It by all means is better than 50.00-75.00, but when larger, more recognized departments are giving their tests at 15.00 and some for free, it makes you wonder if an when they are actually going to take people from their list.

Just an FYI.

Derry has given at least 2 test (one in May or June and then the one they gave about 1-2 months ago) this year. I know that the first one had probably 70-80ish people take the exam. Then about 20-30ish passed the written, then around 17 made it to the oral boards. After that they did backgrounds on the top 4 candidates (because they were hiring 4). If you look at the roster on their site, they had promotions (which can be seen by there date). However 2 test and NO new hires, last one was in 2006. So make what you want of it. I am not saying anything bad about the department, but for whatever reason 200ish applicants and no new hires. Must be incredibly tough to get on. Best of luck in your endeavors.

Derry gets a lot of crappy applicants..The test in May one of the applicants actually had a felony case pending against him...They got a lot of people who lied, and also people who had shady backrounds...The last test in september they hired a couple..and the last kid they hired is going to a CS town in MA in January..

WOW thats amazing. What was he thinking maybe they wouldn't see the felony on his record.

its surprising they get crappy applicants with so many people wanting to become a cop in Mass, you would think they would cross the border? Although, I guess some people in Mass might be crappy applicants as well.

Posted by: ride1620

yea they do..but derry knows about the whole CS process so sometimes they are weary of hiring mass applicants..they get a lot of turnover too esp now adays because some BIG issues with the BRASS...very big

you will be surprised the idiots who take tests..for some reason they think they can get around their problems and no one will find out

I've heard that they have some serious morale issues. That is a big deal to me. Even if the pay is good, you still need to have good working conditions.

Posted by: Macop

Im suprised to hear that. I was under the impression that it was a top notch P.D.

Posted by: jarcop

They are a top notch pd. There are just some issues that have been published in the press about morale. I don't really have any details for you. Then again it could be just an ass or two to spoil the bunch. I'll try to find out some details...
