The Exeter, New Hampshire Police Department is a progressive, professional, community oriented agency with twenty-three full-time.

Exeter is an historic town with a diverse population of over 14,058 people. It is located in the seacoast region of the state with easy access to the larger metropolitan areas of Portsmouth and Manchester, New Hampshire and Boston, Massachusetts. The recreational areas in the White Mountains, in New Hampshire’s lakes region, and along the beaches of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts are just a short drive away.

Officers patrol an assigned area for the purpose of crime prevention/law enforcement. Duties include, but are not limited to:

identification/apprehension of offenders
traffic enforcement
provision of emergency services

There are many specialized assignments and training opportunities as well, to include:

DARE Officer
Honor Guard
Detectives
Bike Patrol
Instructors - firearms/defensive tactics/etc.

Successful candidates must have the ability to exercise good common sense and will be able to analyze situations quickly and objectively, and many of their decisions will be made while under pressure. A college education and/ or military experience is desirable but not essential.


Applicants must, however, meet the following requirements:
minimum of 18 years old
high school diploma or equivalent
a United States citizen

Applicants who meet the basic qualifications are selected on a competitive basis. Each candidate must successfully complete each element of the following:

written examination
physical agility test
psychological exam
comprehensive physical exam
oral board interview
background investigation
polygraph exam
BENEFITS
- Salary Range of $ 17.54 hour - $ 23.57 hour reached in ten steps,
- 1% added to salary for above average evaluation,
- education incentive pay or assistance with tuition,
- uniforms and equipment provided by the agency,
- medical paid 90% to 100% by our agency and Dental paid 100% by our agency,
- annual paid vacation and holidays,
- 20 year retirement at 50% of salary,
- and advanced specialized opportunities.
