DENVER – An officer and a suspect were both injured in an incident on Monday afternoon, prompting authorities to shut down southbound Colorado Boulevard for some time.
Denver Police say an officer saw a suspicious vehicle in an alley, went to check it out.
According to police, that's when the suspect approached the officer and they got into a fistfight. The officer, who felt threatened, then shot the suspect in the side, according to police.
The incident happened near 1285 Colorado Blvd. at about 4:50 p.m.
The suspect then tried to flee the scene by running around the building, but was apprehended and taken to Denver Health Medical Center. The suspect, whose identity was not released, is listed in critical condition, but the injuries were said to be non-life-threatening.
At least eight police cars and two ambulances responded to the scene.
The officer, who was injured in the fistfight, was also transported to Denver Health. The officer's condition was not immediately known.
One lane of southbound Colorado Boulevard was reopened at about 6 p.m.
