Main Page Man Arrested For 8th Time On Drunk Driving Charges

(WBZ) BOSTON A man has been arrested for the eighth time on drunken driving charges.

Ronald Theriault of Chelmsford was arrested on drunken driving charges Tuesday afternoon in Andover after he was pulled over for an alleged traffic violation.

Theriault, 45, has not had an active driver’s license in Massachusetts since 1996 and has since been charged 18 times with driving with a suspended license.

Officer Frank Fitzpatrick said he smelled alcohol coming from the car when he approached, adding that Theriault had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

After refusing a breathalyzer, he was arrested and charged with drunken driving, failure to stay in marked lines, driving after revocation of his license and being a habitual traffic offender and driving after suspension of his license, Fitzpatrick said.

Police then learned that Theriault had been arrested on drunken driving charges seven other times.

Theriault was driving his girlfriend’s car at the time. She was also in the car when Theriault was pulled over and has a valid driver’s license. When asked why she wasn’t driving her car when Theriault didn’t have a license, the girlfriend told officers it was because he knew the directions to their destination better.

Theriault is being held without bail and faces minimum fines of up to $50,000 and a prison sentence of two to five years, Fitzpatrick said.

In some states, it's a misdemeanor to knowingly allow an unlicensed driver to drive your vehicle.

According to Melanies Law here - I believe its a crime.
