A Quebec man was charged with second-degree murder after his mother was shot dead and his father was critically injured by a crossbow on Montreal's South Shore.
David St-Pierre, 26, appeared briefly at the Saint-Hyacinthe courthouse Thursday afternoon, where he was formally charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.
Quebec provincial police arrested him at a coffee shop in Saint-Césaire late Wednesday night, less than an hour after the body of his mother, Gisèle Laperle, 48, and his critically wounded father, 49, were discovered in a nearby residence.
Laperle was shot in the neck and died inside the home, but her husband, who was shot in the head, called 911 despite his injuries, police said.
The father provided police with a description of his son’s car, and that helped police track him down within 45 minutes of the shooting.
