I have a question maybe someone on here can answer, Ok here is the scenerio, you have a subject that has warrants and for one reason or another you need assistance, however you dont call the state for help (even though they are available and willing to help), instead you have the Sherrif's department respond with there K9. Everything goes smoothly and suspect is in custody. Just wondering if the Sherriff's Department charges for the service or if it is covered under there budget.

I have never heard of one department billing another for service. I think it would be safe to assume that it would be covered by the responding agencies budget.

Mutual Aid. We go to oter towns all of the time to work traffic at MVA's, etc. No billing, departments guys helping each other out.

Never happens at a good time though!!

Nothing against the troopers and their dogs but my personnel experience with MSP K9s are they dispatch a k9 from 50- 75 miles away or they send you a one eyed dog. I am no fan of the Sheriffs and they are not my first call but if no local dogs are available they have always responded within a reasonable period of time.

We'd probably call Santa Claus first and then the Easter Bunny. They stand a better chance of being called and showing up.

Appearantly there is some issues between this particular dept and the MSP. I just wasnt sure if it would fall under the mutual aid. Thanks for the info.

As much as I would like to tell you that I am kidding, I am not ! ! I couldn't make something like that up.
The K9 had one eye. Maybe it doesn't effect the dogs performance, that I don't know as the armed robbery suspect was handcuffed and in the back of my car before they arrived.

"One eyed dog" Hmmmm, Could you explain? The State Police now have 40 K-9's inside 495 alone. But anyway, one eyed dog... You must tell us about your expierence with this one eyed wonder... Well?? Your credibilty is on the line here...When did you see this one eyed dog? I will confirm or deny this alledged one eyed dog once you give a little more info..Town? Date?

You seem to questioning my credibility, My screen name is not the one that says cadet. Anyway I will give you a little more info. April 2006, the incident occurred in the southern part of C Troop between 1900 and 2300 hours. I will not say what town as I would rather not broadcast who my employer is. The trooper who was the one eyed K9s handler told me the dog lost the eye to cancer. You can deny the incident all you want but the fact is MSP had a dog with one eye. As for 40 K9s inside of 495 thats great, every time we called for one they dispatched a unit from Springfield.

It was covered by the Sheriff's Office when I was there about 2.5 yrs ago, but things could always change. The Sheriff's Office is always just waiting for call's because they are hated by most and never used.
When I was there a few years ago, one K-9 informed me of this one dept. that would go without a any K-9 instead of using them, even if one was needed.

Haven't heard that one in a while...

Dispatch: I've got the Sheriff's Dept. on the line, they want to know if we need a K-9.

Supervisor: NEGATIVE.

After a few of those, they just stopped calling.

Never had a problem with MSP dogs or the response time, on a few occaisions we have used Rehoboth and I think once we used the sheriffs dept. 99% of the time we call the MSP for the K9, we have a few that live in the area.

The K9 Deputies around here seem like good guys. They have been around for years and most started as C.O's. They should not be confused with the part time hacks. We call them because our experience is similar to Topcop's- the MSP K9's are rarely close by. My experience has been that whether it's a County or MSP dog, they rarely catch anyone. I wonder what has a higher success rate, K9's or Thermal Imaging Devices..?

Plymouth County BCI is extremely helpful. I called for a canine a couple of weeks ago and the K-9 was in Plymouth. He arrived within 15 minutes. I don't know of any dept that "hates" them with any sound reasoning behind it. They are a good group of people.

Yes, MSP has a one eyed dog. Im not a K9 officer, but from what I gather, these dogs use their nose more than their eyes. I have seen him in action a couple of times, no problems....

It's not so much that they hate "them." It is the Sheriff of Bristol County that they don't like.
