NEW BEDFORD — Police seized two guns after arresting three reputed West End gang members Monday night, according to court records.
An FBI Gang Task Force agent conducting undercover surveillance in the area of Kempton and James streets told New Bedford police to approach the individuals who were standing at that intersection.
The individuals were identified as Marcus Depina, 19, of Morgan Street, Cory Hayden, 20, of Kempton Street and Terrel Barros, 18, of Ash Street.
When police approached them, the three fled north on James Street, court records said. Police reported seeing an object being tossed from the group as they ran.
Mr. Hayden surrendered in front of a James Street residence. Police said he had $333 in cash and a small bag of cocaine, court records said.
A loaded 9 mm handgun was found on the street near where police saw the men throw an object as they ran down James Street, court records said.
According to police reports, Mr. Barros was also seen throwing an object as he ran east on Kempton Street. Police later found a loaded .357 Magnum revolver in the area.
Mr. Barros was arrested after police found him hiding in a main common area hallway in a Kempton Street residence, according to police reports.
Police apprehended Mr. Depina on Kempton Street, court records said.
The three suspects were arraigned Tuesday on charges that included unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a firearm without a license, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Mr. Hayden was also charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance.
The defendants are being held pending dangerousness hearings in New Bedford District Court.
