A three-month-old Worcester baby was allegedly killed by his father while the boy’s mother was out shopping, police said.
Bruce Boddie, 31, is expected to be charged with murder in Worcester District Court today for the death of his son, Dominic Boddie.
Police said they rushed to Shawmut Street in Worcester for a report of a baby not breathing Monday about 7 p.m.
There they found the child’s parents on scene and paramedics performing CPR on the baby. The boy was unresponsive and was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he was soon pronounced dead.
The hospital medical staff noticed what police described as “obvious signs of physical trauma” on the baby’s body. A neighbor told WCVB-TV Ch. 5 the boy appeared to have bruises on his body. Police, as well as the Worcester District Attorney’s office, began investigating the death.
Investigators rounded up several people for interviews at the police station, police said.
After a day-long probe, authorities said they determined that Bruce Boddie was watching his young son Dominic while the boy’s mother was out shopping.
“Based on information provided during the investigation as well as physical evidence obtained, one count of murder will be charged against the infant’s father,” police said in a press release.
An autopsy will be performed on the baby to establish a cause of death, police said. The name of the boy’s mother was not released. A call to the Department of Social Services’ after-hours hotline was not immediately returned.

Seeing the father at the hospital that night made me very sick. I will never understand how somebody can do this to a baby.
