March Testing

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

Posted by: hellryd

Hello All,
I'm a noob, and just signed up for the test in March. I was just wondering if anyone could give a half way decent synopsis on what to expect after that. I'm just kind of curious what the time lines may be, when the next academy would be, and the likes of that. I tried to look through a bunch of threads but couldn't find one(probably many). Sorry if I missed some. I'm just trying to put my life together for all this. Thanks for any help you can give.

Thanks for the reply Fed. I'll check some of your other posts.

Just a quick question concerning the DOC tests...

Are the scores of the DOC test banded like the Police/Fire exams?

Posted by: BartA1

Took the September 2007 exam no band scoring just a numerical score. Not sure about the March 2008 test

Posted by: WA1DH

When do they hold the academies? I know there is a January one - is that for those hired off the September exam?

Posted by: Wetherdad

i am in the january academy and there is going to be another one starting in late april/early may...and i wouldnt be surprised to see another one start after that one, i would speculate august or maybe september....

Posted by: Foxy85

Any hope for the March testers to get in on the april/may academy? Or too unrealistic?

Posted by: Mattyc

I am also taking the exam in March and was wondering the same thing... Hey good luck with the exam Foxy hope you do well.

if the exam is CS, I wouldn't hold my breath

Posted by: Foxy85

Well, bare in mind, that it is the C.O. test, and that they are testing/hiring constantly for a reason....retention problems.....

That in mind, I am confident that they will complete the testing phase as quickly as possible....Whether or not its in time to start the next academy...thats a different story...

Posted by: WaterPistola

That's very true as well, either way good luck guys

Posted by: DPDM

I'm signed up too.

Excited to see how I do.

Anyone else going to this testing site.....? Or is it the only one?

Not quite sure how the CO exam works, or how many typically show up.....

Posted by: Mattyc

Thats the same place im taking mine, im not sure if it the only testing place. Good luck guys

With a good amount of the population living inside the 128 belt, Worcester would be an odd choice for the only testing place.

Posted by: DPDM

My appointment is in Haverhill.

Posted by: cdseven

I am scheduled for the upcoming round of testing(saturday). I recently received my notice to appear for the examination. I just had a few simple questions on what to expect and what I should bring to the examination. The notice says a photo id, pencils, a good eraser and all forms to the exam. What are the other forms it speaks of? Secondly should I dress as if I was going to an interview or is it far less formal with a third party proctor?

Thank you

Posted by: jhitch82@yahoo.com

Hey. The test is very similar to the other civil service police/fire exams. It's really not that difficult at all. Just make sure you bring your notice to appear, #2 pencils and ID. Dress informally. No need to get all dressed up. I took mine in a middle school auditorium in Boston. Don't sweat it man. Just get a good night rest and relax when taking the test. I believe if you score 65+ on the exam maybe its 70+ (i can't remember) the DOC will definitely forward you to the next step to be employed. The other forms they speak of is documentation that you are a veteran of war or EMT training or what not.

Just to let you know they don't assign you to an institution until after the academy is over. More then likely you will be thrown right into the fire at Walpole. MCI Cedar Junction

Good luck with tomarrows exam guys I'll be taking mine at the Worcester location at 10AM, Take care.
Matt

Start making your connections now if you plan on avoiding walpole...otherwise, enjoy the academy, because Walpole will be something of its own....

I had a DOC guy tell me a Co just lost their eye because an inmate was stomping on their head and shattered their eye socket....

SIGN ME UP!!!

lol, see you at the exam....

I give you guys a ton of credit. I'll be taking the next exam. Good luck.

Remember to get a lot of sleep tonight, eat a good breakfast & don't overdo the coffee in the morning, and if you don't know the answer to a question, your first instinct is usually correct.

If you have positively no idea what the answer to a multiple-choice question is, the longest answer has statistically the greatest chance of being correct.

Good luck to all taking the exam in the morning!

2 officers did get hurt very badly yesterday at walpole. i did hear he had a crushed eye socket. didn't hear about him losing the eye.

if that's the case then he'll be the second officer in a year to lose an eye. the superintendent did personally supervise the cuffing of the inmates to make sure none of the other officers handed out any revenge.

good luck with the test , stay in shape and stay safe

Posted by: Foxy85

Well, that was def. interesting....My testing site was more crowded than it was when I took the police exam there.....Yet they can never seem to keep their numbers up.....

Anyway, fairly easy test....typical stuff on it....Hope everyone that took it did well on it, and wish you the best during the process....

Posted by: Mattyc

I agree, it was a pretty easy test. How long do we have to wait for our scores? Anyone know what the next process is? I hope everyone did well.
Matt

Posted by: cdseven

The test was not bad... There were quite a few people at my location When are test results expected? Is it a phone call or by mail?

one.. broken eye socket... 2.. broken jaw... i wrote more in the walpole thread if you are interested... and you are wrong about your information about someone losing an eye. No one in recent history there has lost an eye. about 2-3 years ago a CO was stabbed in the eye area that required extensive eye surgery but no losing of the eye. 6 months ago stabbed in head and face area but no one lost eye. and this CO recently did not lose eye..... Don't say things if you don't know for sure

Maybe you should have actually READ what he was saying instead of being a sarcastic ass. Take your own advice: Don't say things you don't know for sure.

Posted by: WA1DH

NO ONE EVER LOST AN EYE. I'M TALKING ABOUT IN THE PAST. NOT THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT. THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. I KNOW HE SAID IF!!!! HYPERTHETICALLY IF HE DID LOSE AN EYE HE WOULD BE THE 1ST OFFICER NOT THE 2ND.... GET MY POINT

Posted by: DPDM

As already asked, Does anyone know ETA on test results, the next test(PAT I presume), & the contact method(phone, internet, carrier pidgeon)?

Thanks.

Posted by: paulgta

well i talked to a few people and they want to rush these test results and everything to start asap. but like everything else with the state might be a while. i know the last march test went to training in september

Posted by: lavalleyb

I took the test on September 29, 2007. I got a letter in the mail November 26th with my score. I didn't get my card to come sign and continue, until the first week of January. Once you sign the card it seems like things are happening every couple of weeks from there.

The only thing I'm not sure of, is how long after you finish all the steps you have to wait to find out if you're in the academy or not....

Good luck to everyone that just took the test yesterday!!
