LONDON (Reuters) - A female detective was critically ill in hospital on Friday after she was knocked down by a car driven by a suspect she was trying to arrest, police said.
Detective Constable Catherine Corbett, 39, suffered serious head injuries in the collision in Hayes, near Heathrow airport.
The officer from the West Midlands force was run over as she tried to arrest a man outside a hotel during a fraud investigation.
Police said it was being treated as attempted murder.
The suspect fled in a blue Peugeot 207 that was later found abandoned nearby.
"Searches of the area are under way," West Midlands police said. "No arrests have been made at this stage."
Corbett has served with West Midlands force for 18 years and is currently part of its Economic Crime Unit.

Detective Constable Catherine Corbett, 39, is in a serious but stable condition after undergoing several hours of surgery at a north London hospital.
Reports say a 41 year old man has been arrested in Birmingham in connection with this case.
A woman in her 30s was also detained at a London police station in connection with the investigation.
Corbett, a single woman from Solihull, has undergone emergency surgery at the neurological unit at Charing Cross hospital in west London. Her family are at her bedside.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Cathy and her family," a West Midlands Police spokeswoman said. "We are anxiously awaiting news from the hospital."
Two other officers were carried along on the car's bonnet before being thrown off. They suffered minor injuries.
