Do the Department of Mental Retardation police still exist? Or were they cut. I read somewhere, at the Hogan Regional Center the DMR Police were disbanded.

Posted by: RPD931

Department of Mental Health Police, still exist. Saw some of them last week.

Posted by: Deputydog522

Yes the DMR Police still are around, but only in a couple of areas. I believe one is wrentham and the other is waltham. RPD he was asking about the Deaprtment Of Mental Retardation Police not the Department of Mental Health Police.

Posted by: NEPS

I know I have seen the Fernald School (Waltham) DMR police cruiser sometime with in the last year. As long as the school remains open, I imagine it will keep its small police staff.

Posted by: Deputydog522

You will see the job posted on mass.gov once every two or three years. They are at the fernald school in waltham. Its is just like all the other s DMH,DPH. The DPH at the Shattuck are busy and they do police work.

Posted by: 94c

are they allowed to engage in foot pursuits without helmets?

Posted by: WaterPistola

"why you call police has retard escape?" -Borat

Posted by: DodgeRam

Actually they seem to be boosting in Waltham, more guys, new cars. Not too sure why, Thought Deval was shutting down the Fernald...

Posted by: rg1283

Probably alot of "old buildings" up there and people who trespass and up to no good. Thus the need for the police, and for the protection of the clients.

DMH Police are SSPO trained and currently work at Westboro State Hospital. They secure the grounds for DMH Adults and there are also DYS Juvenile Facilities on their Grounds! They are an elite unit!

And as part of the Citizen's Police Academy they get to exchange roles for a night.

Posted by: rg1283

I know all about the DMH Police, I wish I worked at a state hospital just to have them around. They must be handy with all those code greens, and even better to deal with those scum bags who abuse the detox system to hide from the police and or courts. The DMH police are the coolest campus police ever, a very unique job. I see them all the time in Lowell when I go upstairs once or twice a month. One has to realize that the people in state hospitals have severe persistant mental illness. Some want to get better, most don't know any better.

DMR cops @ Fernald wear leather jackets. Yes big place with over 260+ residents in the fall of 03'. There was a big community outplacement porgram started when ROMNEY (not Deval) started the shut-down process.

DMH cops are also pretty big at Taunton State, Lemuel Shattick, and others. Good first stepping stone for those looking to move on after gaining a little bit of experience.

94c says;

You're such a swell guy 94p

Awww hell's yeah! Don't forget the folks in Worcester! These jobs are pretty hard to come by - and those that get them stay in the positions. I left and went back... Looooooove it!

Anybody here ever work for Colonel Cooperrider (acorn) down in Southeast? Remember the Mini-Troopers at BMSC doing traffic enforcement on Route 123?

Posted by: OutOfManyOne

They never did it on 123, they did their own crap on their property. Don't be jealous that they had CH90 by statute like all the other municipal PDs.

I know for a fact that DMH crew was pulling over Brockton Hospital nurses and issuing old "H" series citations out on Quincy and Center streets. They were quickly smacked down for that. I used to work with a former supervisor there. He went on to Wellsley or Babson. He told me DMH was a Joke!

Posted by: rg1283

It all depends where one would work as a DMH Police officer. Small places like Harry Solomon in Lowell (about 9 DMH crisis Beds, not including private place upstairs that has about 22 beds) are not going to be as busy as Taunton State Hospital. The DMH seems like a good place to start out or finish up.

Everyone knows someone who worked somewhere and has nothing good to say about it. I never put a lot of faith in one person's second hand opinion, no matter how much I might like and respect them. One never knows what lead to that opinion and I don't like to brand a whole crew of people on the thoughts of one possibly disgruntled employee, who may have been that one bad egg in the first place. Just about every job has a guy that is a little too gung ho and I don't see where that one person should be shown as an example of how good or bad that department is.

With that philosophy, we could ALL find ourselves working for a department that is a joke because there's someone with that opinion for each and every department, no matter what kind of PD it is.

Personally, I'm glad the DMH and DMR and DPH cops are out there for a lot of reasons. GOD BLESS YOU FOLKS! Keep up the good fight.

I also agree. There are many things that I could say about the places I have worked, but I keep them to myself. That is only my opinion and everybody is different. I am glad for all the cops out there, nomatter what dept. Just wish some depts. like the DMH made more money, they deserve it.

Don't mind him. There is no "police" in his resume. He'll be back shortly praising the DMR and accuse someone at work for getting into his account. It gets quite boring in the guard shack.

Your such a nice guy!

I am just curious but which campuses are the most active? Such as more foot and vehicle patrols compared to being at a post for 8 hrs. I assume taunton and worcester are fairly active. Like I said just curious I have seen many postings on the mass.gov/hrd website. Feel free to PM me for those who have worked there. Thanks

oh hell, I speak my mind and am willing to gripe about what sucks about my job, but I make it clear that it has it's GOOD points. EVERY JOB had good and bad points. The best point is PAYDAY and anyone who walks away from a job and says NOTHING GOOD about it, despite collecting a check and paying his/her bills, is obviously someone who is just a whiner so, like I said, I take all the naysayers with a shaker of salt.

This or that job is a joke? Why, did you fail at it and can't come to grips with your own faults? Did they refuse to hire you?

Plus, as I've said before, it's a job. A J-O-B that gives you a paycheck, gives you some or plenty of experience and gives you something to put on your resume. Please, some people really have to get over themselves.

It's simple really.

But then again, MY department is a real Joke!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahscrew it.

All DMH Police just got bumped up 1 pay grade, it is a good start .No matter what anybody says, I am proud to be a DMH cop!!! You couldn't find a better bunch of guys!!!

Posted by: Mass

Good for you guy's!

Posted by: rg1283

You guys deserve it. I just wish the private stand alone psych hospitals would actually have a competent police force. Vs. a lock and key security force that looks like they got fired from the mall.
