You make me sick i cant belive someone could be such a disrespectful ASSHOLE. What are you robo cop you stiff. Not everyone has the opportunity to work for a Civil Service department. if you didn't know not all towns in Mass. are Civil Service. Some small towns would be lost without there part timers or reserves. Why don't you go back to boot camp and hopefully you'll get the soap in the sock treatment and learn a little respect Prvt. Pile. Next time you put your uniform on if you even own one try to remember all the real men that have come before you.

They probably do it because they like the community, it has a great department, and they were offered the job because they are smart, dedicated and the best qualified candidate. They fit the town and it fits them. HRD does NOT make sure people don't get screwed. Ideally, this would be the case. In reality, everyone just gets screwed the same way. So do people go non civil service because they didn't score high enough or what? Perhaps, they prefer to steer clear of the bureaucracy and seek employment at a place where their merits will carry more weight than a test score. Or, maybe, the community where they want to work, just so happens to be a non-CS town. Also campus police why do they walk around like they are supercops. Campus POs are required to do the same job as all other cops - often with less support and less equipment. Most are probably dedicated individuals who work just as hard as any other PO. Some may be seeking municipal jobs and a campus is a great way to gain experience until the opportunity arrives. Others choose a campus because, as stated above, it fits right. The "supercops" on campus are no different from the "supercops" anyplace else. They are small in numbers and are dangerous on or off campus. I respect civil service officers more. Good for you! They earned their jobs, the city or town has to hire them if they score high enough. If you truly believe that the CS test is an accurate measure of a person's ability to perform as a PO, or that by scoring well on a test and living in a certain community equates to earning the job, you my friend are a DUFUS! This is not to say that CS officers are not as capable - that would be silly. CS officers are just as capable as non CS Also all the people on here complaining about civil service score a 100, and you will get on. Not if they live in a town where 50 people are on the list, the first 40 have vet preference (and you don't), and the town only hires 1 PO a year! Unlike a non civil service town you do not have to do all this fake cop, part time work and kiss butt to get a job. You mean hard work, dedication, loyalty, honor, duty??? So score high and you will get on and have nothing to complain about. You really believe this, don't you??? Also, is that really how it should be? Just score well on the test and you are all set? I also hate those part Too bad, a tragedy happened (your house burned down, family member or loved one died) because you were too proud to allow the "wannabe" FF go a little fast or safely proceed through a red light (because his vehicle is well lit and all the motorists recognize the red lights and he is VERY careful) so he could get to the scene just in time. This is where discretion comes into play. We are all on the same team here. For all you people who get low scores on the civil service test apply to Dennis PD and Nantucket PD they always hire. Nantucket hires morons from their website to be cops. That is if you are hell bent on being a cop on a island. Sounds like you have some personal issues here. We don't get to control whether the town we apply to is CS or not, that is determined by the residents. Also, handling hiring on their own, non-CS departments have the benefit of carefully reviewing ALL the applicants and judging them on their abilities and credentials. In case you were wondering just how big a factor test scores are these days in other areas, colleges are increasingly shying away from heavy weightings on standardized test scores of applicants. They want to look at the big picture - the complete candidate, not just how they did. Civil Service is WAY behind here - non-CS has the advantage - mainly because they are small enough and have the resources to not have to rely on CS. Perhaps you should enlighten us as to your specific issues with ACK and Dennis. I have difficulty believing faults without any facts to back it up Also I find that non civil service cops try to be supercops for some reason also they go out looking for trouble or action, knit picking. They are always looking for a bust maybe they will get promoted since there are no rules really of promotion in non civil service. Just look at it seriously take a brockton or Lynn police officer and compare them to a orleans or sharon cop. Who do you think is going to be a hot head and look for trouble and create problems. The civil service cops earned it and are more laid back and do not over react in situations. Your blanket judgments are starting to prove my point about the CS test not being a true representation of candidates abilities and intelligence. This has been on my mind for years. So do people go non civil service because they can't get on a cs department. See above! At least in cs you have protection and can be promoted by a fair test. Also your job security is not at the whims the board of selectman or town councilor to fire you for political reasons. If you screw up, you deserve to get fired - if it's for political reasons, well, get a good lawyer - could just as easily happen on CS department, just cause the protection isn't there doesn't mean you aren't gonna have to fight. You need to watch your back anyplace. However, the smaller, non-CS towns that people join because of the "fit" appear to me to be more supportive of their officers and willing to work through issues. But that's just my view. Honestly people refect on my statements and comment this is what I noticed during my years on the job. Reflected |
