MARSHFIELD - The Marshfield man who skipped his trial on 20 charges, including seventh-offense drunken driving, will be brought back to Massachusetts on Thursday.
Robert Thomas Ohnemus, 70, of 22 Longview Terrace was arrested in Florida last month by Polk County sheriffs.
Officers from the Marshfield and State Police departments left for Florida on Tuesday to bring him back. Ohnemus waived rendition, police said.
He will probably appear in Plymouth District Court on Friday, said Bridget Norton Middleton, spokeswoman for the Plymouth County district attorney’s office.
She said she expects the court will address Ohnmeus’ bail status and set a new trial date at that hearing.
When he fled in August, Ohnemus was awaiting trial on 20 charges stemming from a seven-mile chase through Marshfield in February 2006. Two police officers were nearly run down in the chase.
Ohnemus had had his driver’s license revoked several times for drunken driving and being a habitual traffic offender, police said.
Ohnemus has drunken-driving convictions dating from 1972, according to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
