A Mattapan man was sentenced to seven years in prison yesterday for his third gun conviction in less than 10 years, the Suffolk district attorney's office said. James R. Jones, 27, was charged with unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. Jones was arrested in Dorchester during a traffic stop on June 11, 2006, the district attorney's office said. During the search of the car, Boston police found a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, which they said they believed belonged to Jones, who was a passenger in the car. Jones's other convictions came in 1998 and 2001 in Norfolk and Suffolk counties, authorities said.
