Sauce you would be surprised by the number of deputies that department hires. They get almost unlimited details at a good rate. Plus they hire you part time, where some departments make you work for the county for a year before being sworn.

I know plenty about PCSD's deputy program. Noone will argue with you about how many deputies they hire. Thats half of their problem. As for details, they get hand-me-down details after towns cant fill them, and they pay a 10% finders fee to the PCSD. The CO's who are also deputies are different from the politically appointed deputies. Dont get me wrong, I'm not knocking guys who want to make a buck, but lets not over-glorify the gig.

As for my original post...

My point being that noone other than PCSD deputies would have any desire to purchase those items. (It was meant to be a subtle knock, but obviously it was too subtle.)

I guess that job as a Toll Collector on the Turnpike finally came through?

There are 30 new deputies entering the Intermittent academy on Monday. I am sure you can get one of them to buy your stuff. It might also be true that they get hand me down details, but they get a lot of them.

Shame on the PDs that use them. They should call MSP or other locals, campus PDs.

Yimmy,
You're right in a perfect world, but since Massasoit P.D. vapor locked what can Brockton and the Bridgewaters do except call out the "grey ghosts"

This is totally beating a dead horse, but I couldn't resist. This is a "for sale" add, not a lesson on Deputy Sheriff's. A comment like "shame on the pd's that use" them is unacceptable and unprofessional. People should honestly support everyone in a uniform regardless of their deparment. Whether they are campus police, municipal, state, corrections or trial court, you should respect them for what they do. The sheriff's department in Plymouth County does a lot for the PD's in the county. They provide a place for the pd's to train, qualify with firearms, they provide staff and instructors for municipal police classes, and fill details in towns which police officers decide not to take, or when they are overstretched. They provide their k-9's and their criminal investigations unit for the PD's that ask for these services. Not only that, but they house all the people that are arrested in Plymouth County. Obviously the person that made that comment doesn't live in Plymouth County.

Listen...I dont have a problem with the PCSD, or the guys who work there. My department uses their services regularly, and we have several guys who work there full time. My problem isnt with them. But lets not exagerate things. They dont "house all the people that are arrested in Plymouth County." They accept a few safekeeps on weekends or overnight who cant be bailed or cant make bail. They wont take drunks, junkies, or anyone who is being a complete asshole. So the fact is, the majority of people arrested in Plymouth County are bailed from the respective station, and the others who dont fit into the above categories may be accepted as a safekeep. Thats very few of "all of the people arrested in Plymouth County."

As for other services, K9, BCI, etc. More and more towns are acquiring their own dogs, and most would gladly send them mutual aid to other departments. It's also not rocket science to teach a patrol officer to dust for prints and take pictures.

The fact is that PD's should first try to fill their details with officers from other police departments, saving the Deputies as a last resort.

Not that I have any particular fondness for the SD's but this is a "for sale" thread - if you want to buy the guy's stuff let him know, if you want to discuss the merits of Sheriffs please take it to one of the 50 bazillion existing threads.

Thanks.
