Thinking of coming back to the DOC

(Click here to view the original thread on the MassCops Message Board)

I was with the DOC for a little over 4 years (1996 - 2001) and out for about 7 years now. I resigned on excellent terms (for a private sector job). I have several letters of commodation in my employment file and and an overall excellent employment record with the DOC and my one employer since. I missed this last CO I exam so I am waiting for the next one or possibly look into going in a a CPO on the security side of things.

Any thoughts on whether or not I would need to go to the academy again? After 1 year back on, will I get my seniority back? Where are folks getting assigned to these days? In 96 it seemed everyone was going to MCI-CJ or Framingham . How many steps now (I was at 5)... How's overall morale at the places you work at?

Thanks - S

Not sure about DOC, but Municiple Police it's a 5 year window for Academy training. As for CPO's...Pondville is where they told us everyone is going. They wanted 15 in this class, and down to 8. Quite a few never made it past the PT portion of pre-screen.

Vindicated - was that using the new standards for PT which are more scenario based as opposed to the Coopers Push-up, Sit-Up, Run tests?

I think you may have to go back through the academy again. I believe it is any thing over a three year break. Seniority...I doubt you will get that back but your sick/vaca. time accrual rate should resume...if that is what you mean. I am not positive and could be wrong so call HR.

Interesting...sounds similiar to BOP PT testing. I wonder if they modeled it after theirs. It is easier but also practical.

Yes, that was being based on the "new" scenario type PT test. It is especially difficult for females as the lifting really made them use shoulder/upper body strength, which traditionally is a weak area for females.

Under the old format, there were different tests for women. Now there is no differentiation. Are there any changes being discussed prior to the next academy class? Vindicated, hope all is going well for you at the academy. Best of Luck!!
