Two men will appear in court again on Tuesday charged in connection with the stabbing of a Garda in County Westmeath. Aidan Lyons, who is a member of the Longford-Westmeath Drugs Unit, was stabbed a number of times in the upper arm during a search of a house in Athlone on Saturday morning.
The two men, who were arrested at the scene, appeared before a special sitting of Athlone District Court today.
A 20-year-old was charged with assault causing harm while a 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with having an article capable of inflicting serious injury.
Judge Michael Reilly refused them bail and remanded them in custody to reappear before the court again on Tuesday. The detective's condition was not available.
