NEW BEDFORD — A Dartmouth man identified as a "person of interest" whom police sought to question about the Sept. 30 murder of Albon Wilson was arraigned Monday in New Bedford District Court.
Justin "Biggie" Barbosa, 19, of 137 Stephen St. in South Dartmouth was arraigned on drug distribution charges after being arrested Oct. 5.
Also arrested last week was Adilson Vieira, 21, of 68 Crapo St., who was wanted along with Mr. Barbosa and Ernest Marshall, 23, for allegedly distributing cocaine and marijuana in the South End neighborhood where Mr. Wilson, 24, was killed. Police are still looking for Mr. Marshall.
Still at large is Michael V. Feliciano, 17, who police allege shot Mr. Wilson four times at Bonney and Thompson streets. Mr. Feliciano is considered armed and dangerous, and a $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
According to court records, Mr. Marshall lived with Mr. Vieira and Mr. Barbosa in a 68 Crapo St. apartment where police executed a search warrant following the shooting.
Along with large quantities of crack cocaine and marijuana, drivers' licenses and other documentation were found inside the apartment belonging to the three "people of interest," court records said.
The District Attorney's Office sought to hold Mr. Barbosa, who has no previous criminal record, on $5,000 bail, citing the seriousness of the case. A female witness identified him in a photo lineup, and told police he lived at the Crapo Street apartment. She told police she had gone to the apartment in the past to buy marijuana from Mr. Barbosa, according to court records.
Mr. Barbosa's lawyer, Sean A. McDermott, said his client never lived at 68 Crapo St. He questioned the strength of the commonwealth's evidence against Mr. Barbosa.
"I think they're going to have a very hard time proving this case," Mr. McDermott said.
Mr. Barbosa was released on his personal recognizance. He was also ordered to report to a probation officer three times a week and abide by a mandatory 7 p.m. curfew. He is scheduled to return to court Dec. 17.
Last week, Ana Lague, 45, of 30 Ruby Court, Dartmouth, was arrested and charged with witness intimidation. She was accused of obstructing the investigation by giving misleading testimony when she appeared before the grand jury Oct. 4, according to court records.
Ms. Lague, the relative of a Dartmouth High School student who police questioned in connection with Mr. Albon's murder, was released on her personal recognizance after her Oct. 5 arraignment. The District Attorney's Office failed to provide specific evidence that the judge requested to show probable cause that Ms. Lague lied to police and the grand jury. She is due to return to court Dec. 10.
