CANTON - A 28-year-old Plainville man thought he was in Walpole waiting for a ride to Hyde Park when Canton police found him on Wildewood Road allegedly passed out drunk in his car.

Michael T. Bibeault, 28, of 147 South St., Plainville, was found by Canton police at the top of a hill on Wildewood Drive Friday night just before midnight.

Lt. Helena Findlen said officer Michael Lank found Bibeault lying over the center console with his left foot on the brake of a 1996 Dodge Stratus.

Lank, Findlen said, woke up Bibeault and put the car in park, preventing it from rolling down the hill.

When asked what he was doing, Findlen said Bibeault told Lank that he thought he was in Walpole waiting for a ride to Hyde Park and had no idea how he got to Canton.

After smelling alcohol, finding Bibeault unconscious, and hearing the explanation, Lank arrested Bibeault for second-offense drunken driving and having with no license in his possession.

The $540 bail that would have let him go home before his arraignment in Stoughton District Court this morning was not paid, and he spent the rest of Columbus Day weekend in a holding cell.

Bibeault joined Ronald Buffman, 48, of 23 Cliff Road, Canton, who was arrested nearly two hours earlier for allegedly assaulting his wife during a domestic dispute.

Buffman was released on $40 bail Saturday morning and was to be arraigned this morning in Stoughton District Court.

Early Monday morning Bibeault had another cell mate, Arlindo R. Rebelo, 42, of 90 Highland Street, Brockton, who was charged with drunken driving and reckless operation of a motor vehicle after hitting a telephone pole on Pleasant Street at about 1 a.m. Monday.

It was his first drunken driving arrest.

Findlen said, when police arrived, Rebelo claimed his 2001 Nissan Pathfinder had been hit from behind, sending his vehicle into the utility pole.
Findlen said police could not find evidence of the vehicle being struck, and after Rebelo allegedly failed two field sobriety tests he was arrested.

Rebelo posted $40 bail late Monday afternoon and was expected in court for arraignment this morning.

About 90 minutes after police arrested Rebelo, a call for another domestic assault was received.

Mark Jordan, 29, of 337 Bolivar St., Canton, was charged with assault and battery after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and threw her to the floor, Findlen said.

Jordan posted $40 bail and was released late Monday afternoon.
