Man Stabbed During Ashland Robbery On Saturday

Video: Attack Under Investigation

ASHLAND, Mass. -- MetroWest police are trying to figure out if an attempted robbery during which a victim was stabbed was part of a gang initiation.

NewsCenter 5's Janet Wu reported that Ashland police said a man was stabbed and robbed at the Presidents Row apartment complex on Saturday.

Ronald Dias, 18, of 20 Presidents Row, and Shingirai Murungu, 17, of 346 Mechanic St., Marlborough, face charges of attempted murder in connection with the attack. They also face assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, attempted armed robbery, mayhem and assault with intent to rob charges
"The three suspects were apparently trying to rob the victim who was a random victim and it went a little too far," said Ashland police Detective Greg Fawkes.

Ashland police said they are not sure if the attack is gang-related, and they are close to making a third arrest in the attack.

"It is a very common initiation and their motto is 'Blood in and blood out.' Spill someone else's blood to get in, spill your own to get out," Fawkes said.

Dias lives in the complex where the attack took place.

"I have no comment about that," Dias's mother said.

Fawkes said residents should not worry too much about growing gang violence in MetroWest.

"The main players in this isolated incident are under arrest. I don't think there is any huge growing gang in Ashland. I think there has been some talk of this gang popping up in MetroWest, but it's a nationwide gang. I would more or less chalk it up to them watching too much TV and trying to form their own thing here," Fawkes said.

Dias and Murungu will be arraigned in Framingham District Court on Tuesday.
