Police Unsure Of Shooter's Target

Video: No One Injured In Shooting

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- A 13-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother ran from a man who fired bullets into their Manchester home Monday night, police said.

Victoria Baillargion, 13, said she was on the sidewalk outside her Conant Street home at about 10:30 p.m. with her brother and a neighbor's dog when a man came around the corner.

"He just said, 'Hey, where are you guys going?'" Victoria said. "Then, he started shooting, so we ran."

The children ran up the stairs to their apartment and locked the door as several bullets were fired into the building. Police said they weren't sure exactly how many shots were fired.

Neighbor Ryan Shorey said two of the bullets hit his apartment, but he said he was lucky.

"I guess my mom was out smoking a cigarette five minutes before," Shorey said. "If she'd been out any longer, it would have been bad."

Victoria said she doesn't know why someone would shoot at her.

"I have no idea, she said. "I've never seen him before."

Police said they don't know why the shooting took place or what the target was.

"Whether the gunfire was directed at them or at the building remains undetermined," Sgt. Maureen Tessier said.

Investigators were able to get a description of the shooter.

"We had several witnesses of the suspect, who's described as a heavyset black male who was wearing a hooded black sweatshirt that zips up the front that had some sort of design on the sleeves," Tessier said.

Victoria said her family is worried about the shooter returning.

"I'm kind of scared because my mom thinks this guy is going to come back again, so I'm really scared," she said.

Police are also investigating another shooting that took place overnight in Manchester, also on the West Side. A report of a shot fired at 377 S. Main St. came in at about 11:30 p.m. No one was injured, and police said it was unconnected to the Conant Street shooting.
