HANOVER— A Brockton woman is facing larceny and stolen property charges after going on an alleged shoplifting spree at the Hanover Mall last week.
Anne Barone, 62, of 105 Belair St., Apt. 718, Brockton, legitimately purchased pillows from the JC Penney store then went on to pilfer more than $700 worth of clothing, perfume and other items from nearly a dozen other stores, according to a report filed by Hanover police in Hingham District Court.
Barone was using a scooter to move around the mall. Witnesses said the vehicle had bags from different stores stuffed with merchandise in a rear compartment and hanging from the handles. A saleswoman at Macy's saw Barone pick up items at a cosmetic counter and asked if she needed help. Barone said she did not and rode away.
A Hanover police officer caught up with Barone in the middle of the mall and asked her if she had a receipt for the Macy's items. She said she did not and admitted to taking all of the items on the scooter except the pillows. She did not know why she did it, according to the report.
Barone was arraigned Monday in Hingham District Court on charges of larceny over $250 and receiving stolen property over $250.
She was released on personal recognizance and is scheduled to return to court Oct. 19 for a pre-trial hearing.
