A Seekonk man was arrested by state police Monday afternoon after making an unauthorized landing in his single-engine plane on a secure military runway at Otis Air Force Base in Bourne, according to state police. Brian P. Dedrick, 26, landed his Cessna 172 Skyhawk on the base's runway about 2 p.m., according to Clifford McDonald, a spokesman for the 102nd Fighter Wing. Mr. McDonald said the pilot was immediately taken into custody by base security for questioning, standard procedure when a civilian makes an unauthorized landing. Mr. Dedrick initially told security officers that he had been forced to make a precautionary landing. "That's what he told our people, that he was somewhat lost and a little bit low on fuel," Mr. McDonald said. However, the questioning "deteriorated," Mr. McDonald said, and state police were called. They arrested Mr. Dedrick on charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon, according to state police. The weapons were double-edged knives, according to police. Information on where and how these knives were found was not available Monday night. Mr. Dedrick was being held Monday night at the state police barracks in Bourne. Mr. McDonald said that civilians make unauthorized landings at the base a few times a year. "Usually because of some type of mechanical difficulties, which didn't appear to be the case today," Mr. McDonald said.
